Beach Rescue Drill Re-Enactment at Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station
Join Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station every Thursday at 1:30 pm for a Porch Talk to hear an overview of USLSS history. The drill team will perform an entire re-enactment. This rescue method was used from the late 1800’s through the mid 1950’s.

Explore the marshes, islands, and creeks of Pamlico Sound on a two- hour tour designed especially for kids and others who are looking for a hands-on experience and don’t mind wading in shallow water. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants can learn to catch blue crabs using provided gear, but must bring their own bait. Registration is required and can be done either at the Bodie Island Visitor Center or by calling (252) 475-9501. The registration window begins at 9:00 am (EST) the Saturday prior to the program date. The program takes place near the Bodie Island Lighthouse. Specific location details will be provided upon registration. This program is FREE and open to the public.

The NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island will open for Surf For Autism (SFA). This one-of-a-kind experience, made available by generous sponsors, offers an exclusive experience for SFA families and volunteers to enjoy the aquarium in a sensory-friendly environment.

47 Annual Wright Kite Festival
Enjoy a walk on the hallowed grounds where Wilbur and Orville took their historic first flight in 1903. The 47th Annual Wright Kite Festival will be from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM on Friday (July 18) and Saturday (July 19). Large 30 – 100 foot kites will be flying high on display. We invite you to come fly kites of your own or take FREE stunt and power kite flying lessons.
5th Annual Carova Beach Donkey Derby & Craft Fair
Come for a day filled with fun, excitement, and competition. Watch as our home-made sponsors’ donkeys compete in the Donkey Derby and browse through unique handcrafted items at the Craft Fair. There will be delicious food, music, and plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy. All attendees can register for free door prizes. Tickets are FREE, but you must register online at the event website.
SFA families and participants attend the “Meet & Greet” at Jennette’s Pier in the upstairs banquet room. Participants can check in and then enjoy a very casual meal while mingling with other families.
Saturday July 19
This surfing event pairs participants with volunteers who are surfers and therapeutic professionals for an hour of aquatic fun in the sun at Jennette’s Pier. When it’s time for the participant’s assigned heat, they’ll receive a lifejacket and meet their surfers and therapeutic professional. After transitioning to the water, they’ll spend time catching some of the best waves on the East coast. When their heat ends, they’ll transition to the beach and get some great pictures with their volunteers.
