12th Annual Running of the Village of Nags Head 5K/1 Mile Road Race Series

OBX Running and Village Realty present the 12th annual running of the Village Realty Village of Nags Head 5k/1 Mile Road Race Series. This event will occur at 8AM during the Summer 2024 on June 20 , July 18, and  August 15 in The Village of West Nags Head. Registration is required. (Please note Event location rotates each date in 2024 year. check the event website and location for event location and directions).

Pea Island WildLife Preserve Beach Clean Up

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center 14500 NC Hwy 12, Rodanthe

The Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge will host a series of beach cleanups along the beaches of the refuge throughout the summer, and volunteers from the community are invited to attend! Those who would like to participate are asked to meet at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center—which is located at 14500 N.C. Highway 12 in Rodanthe, N.C.

These beach cleanups will be held as scheduled weather permitting, and participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes and work gloves. For more information, please contact the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center at 252-987-2394. 

Living Proof: Artistic Visions of Hope & Healing

Living Proof: Artistic Visions of Hope & Healing will be on display in The Courtroom Gallery July 5-27, 2024. This exhibit is sponsored by Visionary Artists Group, an organization of local artists, who are cancer survivors and/or caregivers. Their goal is to give all those whose lives have been impacted by cancer an opportunity to share their experiences through creative expression. 

Tammy Goodrich Exhibit: Nothing Is Ordinary; Everything Is Beautiful

Nothing Is Ordinary; Everything Is Beautiful will be on display in the Vault Gallery July 5-27, 2024. There will be an opening reception on Friday, July 5 from 6pm to 8pm, where visitors can meet Tammy and view her work. This exhibit will feature original, small oil paintings by Tammy Goodrich. The paintings in this exhibition will capture ordinary, yet beautiful, moments in our natural surroundings. Full of lush color and vibrant light, the paintings will resonate with anyone that enjoys still life and local landscape.

Archaeology Jamboree at Hatteras Library

Come to the Archaeology Jamboree at Hatteras Library on Thursday, July 18th from 12:30 p.m.- 2:00 p.m.! Hatteras Library will be rocking an Archaeology Jamboree with Serena Diaz from Ft Raleigh National Park. Come identify and create your own artifact.

Chicamacomico’s Historic Shipwreck Rescue Reenactment

Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station 23645 NC-12, Rodanthe

Widely known for its rich history of saving souls in peril from the sea, the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station has, for many years, provided a re-enactment of the beach apparatus rescue drill, recognized as an integral part of the Life-Saving Service. Meet on the porch promptly at 2 and hear an introduction to the history of Ocean rescues from the early 1800’s to present before proceeding out to the drill field where Chicamacomico’s Drill team will explain the equipment, and conduct the drill culminating with the rescue of a lucky kid from the audience. This event is free.

The U.S. Life-Saving Service 1871- 1918 Presented by Keeper James Charlet

Hatteras Lighthouse Pavillon Lighthouse Road, Buxton

Come learn about the US Life-saving Service. Hear true and amazing stories of daring shipwreck rescues from the Graveyard of the Atlantic by “America's Forgotten Heroes." Did you know the most highly awarded maritime rescue in US history occurred right here on the Outer Banks, August 16, 1918? Local historian, Keeper James Charlet, will give a 15 minute presentation full of facts at the Hatteras Lighthouse Pavillon. This will be the last set of presentations for the season (3:30 pm and 4:00 pm).
