Widely known for its rich history of saving souls in peril from the sea, the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station has, for many years, provided a re-enactment of the beach apparatus rescue drill, recognized as an integral part of the Life-Saving Service. Meet on the porch promptly at 2 and hear an introduction to the history of Ocean rescues from the early 1800’s to present before proceeding out to the drill field where Chicamacomico’s Drill team will explain the equipment, and conduct the drill culminating with the rescue of a lucky kid from the audience. This event is free.

Come to Dowdy Park for Fitness Fridays. Enjoy family friendly free fitness classes including Tai Chi, Pilates, and Balance & Stretch classes. This event is free, and open to all ages and/or levels of fitness experience. This event recurs every Friday until August 16, 2024.

It’s Summer time on the Outer Banks. Get your morning started right by adding fun and fitness to your vacation. Enjoy a flat fast paced run/walk through beautiful Kinnakeet Shores in Avon, NC part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Everyone gets a T-shirt, unique finisher medal and chip timing. Awards to the top 3 male and female in the Overall, 1st place Youth boy/girl (14 & under) and 1st Place M/F Masters (40 & Over). Discover what life can be found in the Roanoke Sound. Give a park ranger a helping hand with seining the sound.  Get a close-up view of the critters we catch. Extra nets will be available for our young explorers. This activity will take place in the water close to the shoreline, so be prepared for a wet experience!  Afterwards, participants will receive an official Jockey's Ridge State Park Soundside Explorers member card.  Get out, get wet, and enjoy summer!
