Celebrate 150 Years of Light at the Currituck Beach Lighthouse! On Monday, December 1, the Currituck Beach Lighthouse marks its 150th Anniversary with a full day of festivities. Enjoy free lighthouse climbs from 11 AM to 4 PM (donations welcomed), then stay for a special Anniversary Celebration from 4–5 PM featuring speeches, sparklers, cake, and a champagne toast to another 150 years of guiding light. First Friday is a fun-filled, family-oriented event held the first Friday of each month, March through November from 6pm to 8pm, in historic downtown Manteo. On Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 10:30 am come watch the annual Christmas parade! The parade route winds its way through the streets of downtown, beginning at Manteo High School and ending on the other side of the new College of the Albemarle campus. Fabulous floats full of holiday cheer and wonderful community spirit are always something to see every year! See the event link for a map of the route. Wright Brothers Day, held annually on December 17, commemorates the Wright Brothers’ first powered flight at Kill Devil Hills. According to the official schedule, the celebration runs from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, with free admission for all visitors. The day features commemorative ceremonies, historical tributes, and special programs honoring the achievements of Orville and Wilbur Wright. Join us for this truly moving presentation, where the Bethlehem story comes to life on the church's front lawn at 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 21st. This portrayal of the Bethlehem story invites everyone to take a break from their hectic holiday preparations and rediscover the true meaning of the season. Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is home to nearly 400 species of birds that reside here or migrate through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan. Pea Island Bird Walks are held year-round except during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival in October and December. Head to Jockey’s Ridge State Park for a ranger-led one-mile loop hike along the scenic Soundside Nature Trail. This easy walk takes you through maritime thickets, wetlands, and sandy shoreline habitats, offering an up-close look at the plants and wildlife that thrive at the base of the towering dunes. Along the way, the ranger will share insights into the delicate ecosystems that connect the dunes to the Roanoke Sound and why they are so vital to the Outer Banks. This free, family-friendly program is open to the public. Bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes for a refreshing and educational outdoor experience.

The reception begins with a brief artist talk at 11:45 a.m., followed by refreshments.
