There is something exquisite about the simplicity of jellies. Their color, shape and size are mesmerizing. This trio of Giant Jellies were created to spark curiosity about these magical creatures. The bells were sculpted over exercise balls, then drilled, sanded, painted and sealed. The colorful tentacles are made from deconstructed bath sponges and recycled beads. The reefs and their creatures are built out of expanding foam and wet sand, plus polymer clay and up-cycled plastic bottles. Electrical conduit, bicycle wheels and plywood make up the armatures.

Join a park Ranger for an exciting dune hike. This guided hike will take you through maritime evergreen forest and out to the tallest living sand dunes on the east coast. Learn about the unique ecosystem of Jockeys Ridge and recreational opportunities our park has to offer. Observe plants and learn about the wildlife at Jockey’s Ridge. This hike will take approximately 30 minutes and will meet at the Visitor’s Center Pavilion. Please wear appropriate shoes, sunscreen, and bring water!
Children grades Kindergarten through 7th will enjoy the "Hooked on Books Club" in the Manteo Library Meeting Room. Join Ms. Tammy to receive a copy of the current Book Club book. There will be a Trivia Game about the book and prizes! Come Get Hooked on Books!

SUN-MADE is an exhibition of new, original collage works that explore the dual role of the sun, highlighting its power to nurture life through photosynthesis with simultaneously eroding the vibrancy of pigments. The process in which the paintings were created mirrors the balance between creation and destruction inherent in nature. SUN-MADE is free and open to the public. It will be on display in the Vault Gallery from October 4-26, 2024.

The Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge will host a beach cleanup event this Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 10 a.m. until noon. Those interested in participating should meet at the parking area on NC Highway 12 north of the Jughandle Bridge, 6 miles south of the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center. You are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, and work gloves. If you have them, also bring a 5 gallon bucket and/or grabber. A brief safety talk will be given before heading onto the beaches to pick up trash wherever it’s needed most.

Pea Island Bird Walk is a FREE event. Pea Island is ACTUALLY for the birds! This National Wildlife Refuge has close to 400 species of birds that live here or pass through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan.

The Endangered Red Wolf Tour is a FREE program. Join refuge staff for a guided program on the endangered red wolf! Tours will begin with an introduction to the history and biology of the red wolf. From there, participants will return to their vehicles and follow staff along the wildlife drive within the home range of wild red wolf family group. These tours do not guarantee that participants will see a wild red wolf, but they do serve as an opportunity to showcase the vast territory of the only wild red wolf population.
Programs will not be offered in inclement weather.

Bring your friends and family to celebrate the arrival of fall at Island Farm! On Saturdays in October, Island Farm will host its 13th annual Pumpkin Patch event. There will be no shortage of memories made while finding the perfect pumpkin in the patch to participating in fall games, making dolls and candles. In addition to the farm’s activities, there will be breakfast biscuits, as well as a variety of local art vendors and locally-grown produce for purchase on site. This event will take place on October 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 9 am until 3 pm Admission for visitors ages four and older is $10. Children 0-3 years old are admitted for free.

The 2024 Outer Banks Seafood Festival has become one of the highlights of the fall season, with plenty of fresh seafood, storytelling, vendors, music, and activities to keep everyone in the family entertained. This all-day event takes place at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head, and is a family-friendly outing that will make anyone fall in love with the Outer Banks and its culinary cuisine.
General Admission for anyone 13 and over is $20. Children 12 & under are FREE. General admission tickets include $10 in Beverage/Merchandise Bucks good for the purchase of beverages and festival merchandise. Additional “beverage bucks” may be purchased at the event. This FREE event will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall where local businesses will be set up to greet trunk-or-treaters. The Barks and Brews Halloween Dog Costume Contest is an event that will benefit for the Outer Banks SPCA. Join Swells'A Brewing Beer Company on Sunday, October 2, from 3-6 pm for a howling good time! Costume categories include Best Dog Costume, Scariest Dog Costume, and Best Owner Dog Costume. Contestants must register by 4:30 pm to participate.
