There is something exquisite about the simplicity of jellies. Their color, shape and size are mesmerizing. This trio of Giant Jellies were created to spark curiosity about these magical creatures. The bells were sculpted over exercise balls, then drilled, sanded, painted and sealed. The colorful tentacles are made from deconstructed bath sponges and recycled beads. The reefs and their creatures are built out of expanding foam and wet sand, plus polymer clay and up-cycled plastic bottles. Electrical conduit, bicycle wheels and plywood make up the armatures.

The process in which the paintings were created mirrors the balance between creation and destruction inherent in nature. SUN-MADE is free and open to the public. It will be on display in the Vault Gallery from October 4-26, 2024.

The festival takes place in 6 national wildlife refuges over 6 northeast North Carolina counties. It is one of the premier east coast wildlife festivals. Locally, many activities take place on National Park Service property, specifically Cape Hatteras National Seashore, one of the Festival partners. It is not an invitational tournament but is an individual tournament with a team component. There will be 60 hours of fishing on the Hatteras Island beaches between Ramp 23 and possibly to ramp 45 (South Beach). See the event website for a full schedule of events. Registration is required with fees beginning at $130.

Join a park Ranger for an exciting dune hike. This guided hike will take you on a one mile loop hike along the Soundside Nature Trail. Learn more about the environment found at the base of the dunes, including the Roanoke Sound and the unique ecosystem at Jockeys Ridge. Observe plants and learn about the wildlife at Jockey’s Ridge. This hike will take approximately 45 minutes and will meet at the Visitor’s Center Pavilion. Please wear appropriate shoes, sunscreen, and bring water! This is free and open to the public.

Pea Island Bird Walk is a FREE event. Pea Island is ACTUALLY for the birds! This National Wildlife Refuge has close to 400 species of birds that live here or pass through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan.

The public is welcome to come to the scenic docks of the downtown waterfront to enjoy the fine craftsmanship of both newly created vessels, as well as restored and historic wooden boats from generations past. Bring your friends and family to celebrate the arrival of fall at Island Farm! On Saturdays in October, Island Farm will host its 13th annual Pumpkin Patch event. There will be no shortage of memories made while finding the perfect pumpkin in the patch to participating in fall games, making dolls and candles. In addition to the farm’s activities, there will be breakfast biscuits, as well as a variety of local art vendors and locally-grown produce for purchase on site. This event will take place on October 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 9 am until 3 pm Admission for visitors ages four and older is $10. Children 0-3 years old are admitted for free.
On Saturday, October 26 from 11 am - 3pm come to Dowdy Park in Nags Head for the 2nd Annual Dogs Against Domestic Violence. Dogs Against Domestic Violence is a family friendly community awareness event that we will be hosting at Dowdy Park in Nags Head. There will be a dog costume contest, a dog-owner look-a-like contest, best tail wagger contest, and silliest trick contest. Enjoy pet friendly booths, prizes and more. The 8th Annual Outer Banks Brewtag will take place at the Soundside Event Site on October 26th, 2024 from 11 am - 5:30 pm. This one-of-a-kind event, inspired by Red Bull Flugtag, invites teams and individuals to compete by launching and flying a 1/6 keg barrel the farthest. Admission to the event is FREE to the general public. A rather crafty selection of local and regional beer and food will be available for purchase that day. This family-friendly event. Bring the whole family for a day of fun, with a dedicated Kid Zone filled with activities and our exciting BOOTAG Halloween Costume Contest for the little ones. On Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 5pm to 8pm come to the Elizabethan Gardens for A Night of 1587 Pumpkins & a Bonfire with s'mores. The event showcases1,587 jack-o-lanterns. Each year, the Sea Breeze trail becomes a haunted terror for those who choose to enter. Past themes include "Clowns in the Woods", "Moon Over Hatteras" and "Barrel of Bones", all based on a local legend. This year Haunted Trail: Dark Walk will be on October 26 from 8-10pm. Participants meet at the Hatteras Civic Center and are transported to the trail. Join us if you dare! Admission is $5 per person.

The bells were sculpted over exercise balls, then drilled, sanded, painted and sealed. The colorful tentacles are made from deconstructed bath sponges and recycled beads. The reefs and their creatures are built out of expanding foam and wet sand, plus polymer clay and up-cycled plastic bottles. Electrical conduit, bicycle wheels and plywood make up the armatures.

Wings Over Water (WOW) is an annual national wildlife refuge fundraising event that has grown from a few activities in 1997, to over 70 birding, paddling, photography, art & natural history programs. The festival takes place in 6 national wildlife refuges over 6 northeast North Carolina counties. It is one of the premier east coast wildlife festivals. Locally, many activities take place on National Park Service property, specifically Cape Hatteras National Seashore, one of the Festival partners. Join Ranger Austin's skeleton crew and cool ghouls for a fun and festive hour at Jockey's Ridge State Park. Learn about what goes bump in the park after dark. This spook-tacular program will include a presentation on nocturnal critters, fun games, and creepy nature crafts. We will make Halloween-themed art using natural materials like pine cones and leaves! Treats bags will be provided at this program for ages 5 to 10. The 11th Annual Outer Banks Halloween Parade of Costumes will be at Aviation Park in Kill Devil Hills on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
This event is a FREE, family friendly Halloween party is open to all ages. Festivities start at 2:00 p.m. with trick or treating provided by local nonprofit organizations and area businesses around the frog pond at Aviation Park. Various decorated vehicles and props will be on display throughout the park for photo opportunities. The short walking parade begins at 3:00 p.m., followed immediately by the judging ceremony for the Best In Show costumes in three categories.
