Learn about the unique ecosystem of Jockeys Ridge and recreational opportunities our park has to offer. Observe plants and learn about the wildlife at Jockey’s Ridge. This hike will take approximately 30 minutes and will meet at the Visitor’s Center Pavilion. Please wear appropriate shoes, sunscreen, and bring water!

Children grades Kindergarten through 7th will enjoy the "Hooked on Books Club" in the Manteo Library Meeting Room. Join Ms. Tammy to receive a copy of the current Book Club book. There will be a Trivia Game about the book and prizes! Come Get Hooked on Books!

The kids from the OBX Montessori Collective have been working hard to bring creative kid crafts, an amazing silent auction with baskets, and fun activities! There will be many items and activities for kids. This is a fundraising event. All proceeds will go to the nonprofit Collective Education Foundation. Wings Over Water (WOW) is an annual national wildlife refuge fundraising event that has grown from a few activities in 1997, to over 70 birding, paddling, photography, art & natural history programs. The festival takes place in 6 national wildlife refuges over 6 northeast North Carolina counties. It is one of the premier east coast wildlife festivals. Locally, many activities take place on National Park Service property, specifically Cape Hatteras National Seashore, one of the Festival partners. Pea Island Bird Walk is a FREE event. Pea Island is ACTUALLY for the birds! This National Wildlife Refuge has close to 400 species of birds that live here or pass through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan.

Kick off the holiday season in the Town of Manteo on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting. This event takes place on Queen Elizabeth Avenue in front of the historic Dare County Courthouse, bringing together the community for an evening of festive music, holiday cheer, and warm traditions. The ceremony will feature performances by local musicians and choirs, setting a festive tone for the evening as the tree is illuminated against the backdrop of downtown Manteo. You can expect holiday music, caroling, live performances by local school choirs and musicians, complimentary hot cocoa and seasonal treats. Santa Claus will make a special visit, delighting children and providing a photo opportunity.

First Friday is a fun-filled, family-oriented event held the first Friday of each month, in historic downtown Manteo. The sidewalks pulse with live music, magic, artisans, and much more. The Manteo Stroll featuring celebrations, specials, art openings, sales and more inside Manteo galleries, shops and restaurants also happens during First Friday.

This year's Downtown Manteo Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 2024 starting at 10:30 am. The parade rain date for this event is Sunday, December 8th, 2024 at 2:00 PM.
