Handmade Paper Art by Paul Tury is the newest exhibit in the Town of Duck Rotating Art Show. The exhibit will be on display Monday-Friday (excluding holidays) from 9:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. November 1, 2024 – January 22, 2025 in the first floor conference room of the Town Hall. Paul’s artistic passion is making handmade paper in his home studio from commercially available and natural sources. The papers he uses are made from cotton, abaca, hemp, recycled paper, recycled clothing and natural items such as flowers, seaweed, herbs, and other plants. He will frequently dye the paper pulp in a variety of bright colors which complement and contrast with the natural colors of his raw materials. This process creates a wide spectrum of colors, shades, and textures. He then uses this paper to build 3-D art work.

Join a park Ranger for an exciting dune hike. This guided hike will take you on a one mile loop hike along the Soundside Nature Trail. Learn more about the environment found at the base of the dunes, including the Roanoke Sound and the unique ecosystem at Jockeys Ridge. Observe plants and learn about the wildlife at Jockey’s Ridge. This hike will take approximately 45 minutes and will meet at the Visitor’s Center Pavilion. Please wear appropriate shoes, sunscreen, and bring water! This is free and open to the public.

Pea Island Bird Walk is a FREE event. Pea Island is ACTUALLY for the birds! This National Wildlife Refuge has close to 400 species of birds that live here or pass through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan.
Pea Island Bird Walks are held year-round except during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival in October and December. Meet at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, located on NC Highway 12 approximately 4 miles south of Oregon Inlet and 9 miles north of Rodanthe.

Tryouts are closed to the public and only open to contestants. If under the age of 18 years or older, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times to participate.
