The installation will open at 6pm on Friday, March 7 and remain on display through May. This outdoor installation features several geometric structures made from lightweight, weather-resistant PVC pipe and deconstructed fabric from discarded beach umbrellas collected from local beaches by the artist. The cube-like structures vary in size, with some reaching up to eight feet. Their arrangement encourages viewers to move around and in between them, providing a dynamic experience of changing perspectives and spatial relationships within the courtyard. All of The Courtyard events are free, family-friendly and open to the public.

First Flight Society will celebrate Wilbur Wright's birthday with the annual Wilbur Wright Day event, a luncheon at the Hilton Garden Inn Outer Banks/Kitty Hawk. Speakers include Captain Paul Carr as the Spirit of Wilbur Wright, National Park Interpreter Adonis Osekre, and Dare County Vice Chairman Steve House. Carr and House are both board members of the First Flight Society. Sponsors and partners will be recognized as part of the event. An additional highlight will be a silent auction to raise money for First Flight Society programs. Tickets are available online at the event website.

An art exhibition spotlighting the connection between art and nature. This unique event – the first ever at the park -- will be located inside the Jockey’s Ridge State Park’s Visitor Center and will showcase approximately 20 regional artists in a range of mediums and styles.
All art will be for sale and a portion of the proceeds benefits Friends of Jockey’s Ridge. The mission of the Friends of Jockey’s Ridge is to support, protect, and promote Jockey’s Ridge as a significant geologic and cultural feature of the Outer Banks. The Friends group helped to fund over 400 educational programs at the park last year, supported facility updates, and continued to be a leader in the conversation about protecting and preserving Jockey’s Ridge. Pea Island Bird Walk is a FREE event. Pea Island is ACTUALLY for the birds! This National Wildlife Refuge has close to 400 species of birds that live here or pass through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan.
Pea Island Bird Walks are held year-round except during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival in October and December. Meet at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, located on NC Highway 12 approximately 4 miles south of Oregon Inlet and 9 miles north of Rodanthe.

Celebrate National Kite Month and the start of Spring with Kitty Hawk Kites! Experience the sights of massive 30-to-100-foot kites flying high over Jockey’s Ridge State Park on Friday, April 18th and Saturday, April 19th 10am - 4 pm. Viewers are encouraged to park at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing or Jockey’s Ridge State Park to enjoy the Kite Festival. Both parking lots are about a 10 minute walk through the dunes to the festival. We encourage all furry friends to come; we just ask that animals be leashed. Per Jockey’s Ridge State Park regulations, all pets are required to be leashed while on State Park property. This event is FREE and open to the public!

Children and families may follow a map of the Gardens’ paths to gather eggs at designated “egg stations” and enjoy contests, games and vendors on the Great Lawn. We will be hosting small-scale Easter Egg Hunts on Saturday, April 19th starting at 10:30 AM. Easter egg hunts every 15 minutes, along with photos with the Easter Bunny under the hang glider. You can invite your friends and family to participate with special prizes included! Each Easter Egg Hunt will be 15 minutes with a $7 registration fee for each participant. We highly recommend registering ahead of time.
Soundside Spring Market Series is coming! Mark your calendar. Two amazing Soundside Markets are planned in the coming months. One market will celebrate the spring equinox and will be held on Saturday, March 22. The other will celebrate Easter weekend and will be held on Saturday, April 19. Both markets will run from noon to 4 PM.
Easter egg hunt at Chicamocomico life-saving station on Saturday, April 19 from 1 until 3. Please bring the kids and enjoy live music on the side porch of the 1911 station. Local musician, Martin Summers, will be playing his guitar and singing Easter songs and more. Chicamocomico Banks Ladder Truck will be riding up at 1 o’clock with the Easter Bunny on board. There will be no charge for admission but donations are welcome which goes toward the Elvin Hooper scholarship fund.
