The exhibit, Inheritance, examines the liminality of sacred places. Ethereal vignettes of ancestral grounds anchor the photography exhibition by Baxter Miller, a descendant of a Hatteras Island family who arrived in the 1700s. Printed and framed oversized on Hahnemühle watercolor rag, the work stands in stark contrast to traditional depictions of landscape.

Wright Brothers Day, held annually on December 17, commemorates the Wright Brothers’ first powered flight at Kill Devil Hills. According to the official schedule, the celebration runs from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, with free admission for all visitors. The day features commemorative ceremonies, historical tributes, and special programs honoring the achievements of Orville and Wilbur Wright. Throughout the day, visitors can explore exhibits, attend presentations, and participate in activities celebrating aviation history and inspiring future generations. Admission to the park is FREE.

A highlight of the event is the First Flight Society’s Annual Luncheon at Jennette's Pier begins at 12 PM. Tickets ($60 - $75) can be purchased at the event website. The Luncheon brings together aviation enthusiasts, historians, and community members.

Cool off indoors while diving into Jockey's Ridge State Park's fascinating natural features.  This causal drop-in program features animal mounts, pelts, sand samples, fulgurites, and educational games for all ages.  Learn about dune formation, wildlife, and the unique forces shaping Jockey's Ridge. This easy walk takes you through maritime thickets, wetlands, and sandy shoreline habitats, offering an up-close look at the plants and wildlife that thrive at the base of the towering dunes. Along the way, the ranger will share insights into the delicate ecosystems that connect the dunes to the Roanoke Sound and why they are so vital to the Outer Banks. The 2025 First Flight Holiday Markets will be held on Saturday, November 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A third market is also scheduled for Friday, December 19 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. These events are hosted by the Town of Kill Devil Hills and will feature local vendors at Aviation Park.

Along the way, you’ll discover the fascinating plants and animals that thrive in this ever-changing landscape and learn what makes this park such a natural treasure. Soundside Holiday Market provides an amazing opportunity for our talented local artisans, creators, and makers to share their wares, stories, and spirit with Outer Banks visitors and locals alike. Markets will be on November 23, November 30, and December 14 from 12 pm - 4 pm.

Bring a critter to life this holiday season.  Join Ranger Austin for a fun and informative hour of crafts while learning more about the wild world of Jockey's Ridge. This activity will take place in the park's Community Room.  Recommended for ages 5 and up. Registration is required.

Holy Redeemer by the Sea is excited to host its 21st annual outdoor "Living Nativity".  Join us for this truly moving presentation, where the Bethlehem story comes to life on the church's front lawn at 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 21st. This portrayal of the Bethlehem story invites everyone to take a break from their hectic holiday preparations and rediscover the true meaning of the season.  
Parishioners, both young and old, will perform the roles in both English and Spanish.  They will bring the Nativity story to life with narration and carols.  

A special section has been reserved in the front for small children and those who are unable to stand for 20 minutes (please bring a lawn chair). Following the presentation, we invite you to enjoy hot beverages and cookies in the parish hall, along with a special guest from the North Pole.  We hope to see you there!
