Baxter Miller Exhibit: Inheritance

From November to December, the Vault Gallery will feature a collection of first-edition, framed original photographs by Baxter Miller. The exhibit, Inheritance, examines the liminality of sacred places. Ethereal vignettes of ancestral grounds anchor the photography exhibition by Baxter Miller, a descendant of a Hatteras Island family who arrived in the 1700s. Printed and framed oversized on Hahnemühle watercolor rag, the work stands in stark contrast to traditional depictions of landscape.
Baxter’s photography is graphic, bold, full of transcendent color, and poppy high-key light. She often craves a vantage point from above and is keenly aware of how pattern and repetition shape a scene, a place, and us. Her work speaks to both the particular and the universal aspects of the relationship between people and the world around them.
Inheritance will be on display in the Vault Gallery November 8 – December 20, 2025.
