Ocracoke Independence Day Celebrations 2026

Celebrate Independence Day island-style during Ocracoke’s beloved three-day Fourth of July celebration. From fireworks over Silver Lake Harbor to a hometown parade, sand sculpture contest, square dancing, and a community beach fire under the stars, this annual tradition offers family-friendly fun and small-town charm for visitors and locals alike.

Thursday, July 2
Kick off the festivities with a pre-fireworks gathering featuring music from local DJ Tommy Hutcherson at the NPS docks beginning at 7:00 p.m. The evening concludes with a spectacular fireworks display at 9:15 p.m., launched from the National Park Service parking area at the southern end of the island.

Friday, July 3
Enjoy a fundraising Fish Fry and Open House from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at the Island Inn Commons, followed by the popular Old-Time Ocracoke Square Dance with Molasses Creek from 7:00–8:30 p.m. Admission to the square dance is $5 for adults ages 13 and older.

Saturday, July 4
The celebration continues with the 43rd Annual Sand Sculpture Contest at Lifeguard Beach from 9:30 a.m. to noon, followed by the Independence Day Parade at 4:00 p.m. honoring America’s 250th Anniversary. The day wraps up with awards presentations, a fundraising cookout, and a Community Beach Fire from 7:00–10:00 p.m. at the Ocracoke Day Use Area.

Cost: Most activities are free. The Old-Time Ocracoke Square Dance is $5 for adults ages 13 and older.
