The 27th Annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show will open at the Dare Arts Courtroom Gallery on Sunday, May 5 with a special opening reception from 2pm to 4pm. The annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show is held in memory of Mollie A. Fearing, one of the founders of the Dare Arts, and features an eclectic mix of artwork. The Memorial Show goes on display every May at the Dare Arts Gallery. Come enjoy artwork submitted by local artists. The exhibit will will end with awards for Best in Show, Excellence, Honorable Mention, and a People’s Choice Award.
Who was Mollie Fearing? In 1975, a group of citizens gathering at her house to begin what was originally called the Sea and Sounds Arts Council. It was established to bring cultural arts programing to Dare County, including dance, theater, visual arts, music, literature and more. More than 40 years later, her vision, and that of its founders, remains strong. Mollie was a vital supporter and advocate of the arts until she passed away on September 3, 1997. We continue to celebrate her memory and remember her many contributions to the area through this annual exhibit.
