Learn more about Jockey's Ridge State Park through hands on activities, species stations, games, pelts, and a presentation about Jockeys Ridge. Stay for as long or little as you want to. Join our environmental educator for an exciting and educational Sunday morning Dune Hike. This guided hike will take you through maritime evergreen forest and out to the tallest living sand dunes on the east coast. Learn about the unique ecosystem of Jockeys Ridge and recreational opportunities our park has to offer. Observe plants and learn about the wildlife at Jockey’s Ridge. This hike will take approximately 45 minutes and will meet at the Visitor’s Center Pavilion. Please wear appropriate shoes, wear sunscreen, and bring water!

In honor of the birthday of the first English child born here on Roanoke Island in 1587, Virginia Dare, the Elizabethan Gardens will offer a celebratory admission discount. No other discounts available this day. Admission for children 2 years and younger is free. Admission for children 3-5 years old is $2.60. Admission for children ages 6-17 is$6.60. Admission for adults ages 17+ is $10.60.

There will be many planned activities throughout the day. Activities will be posted at the Gardens.

Come celebrate National Aviation Day at the Wright Brothers National Memorial and Dare County Regional Airport from 10 am to 10 pm. The mornings activities will take place at Dare County Regional airport with afternoon and evening activities at the Wright Brother's Memorial Park. The day will be capped off with a free outdoor movie. Admission and parking are free at the airport and at the Memorial all day. This event is for all ages. The morning activities include airplane displays, exhibitors, and food trucks. The afternoon’s highlights will include guest speakers as well as Ranger talks inside the Visitor Center and around the park. The evening’s outdoor movie will start around 8:00 PM. Bring your own blankets and chairs to watch the movie under the stars. 

Children ages 3 - 5 years old will enjoy Storytime with Ms. Tammy in the Manteo Library Meeting Room. Come Get Hooked on Books! All August dates have been canceled. Story time will resume in September after Labor Day.

Children grades Kindergarten through 7th will enjoy the "Hooked on Books Club" in the Manteo Library Meeting Room. Join Ms. Tammy to receive a copy of the current Book Club book. There will be a Trivia Game about the book and prizes! Come Get Hooked on Books!

Bodie Island Lighthouse Climbing will be on Monday, August 19 at 8 p.m., 8:30 p.m., 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
and on Tuesday, September 17 at 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Tickets can only be purchased for the full moon climb starting at 7 a.m. on the day of intended climb. (Aug 19 and Sept 17). The cost is $10 for ages 12 and up, $5 for senior citizens and children 11 years and younger.
