Pea Island Bird Walk is a FREE event. Pea Island is ACTUALLY for the birds! This National Wildlife Refuge has close to 400 species of birds that live here or pass through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan.

Pea Island Bird Walks are held year-round except during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival in October and December. Meet at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, located on NC Highway 12 approximately 4 miles south of Oregon Inlet and 9 miles north of Rodanthe.

From November through December, the Dare Arts Vault Gallery will feature photography by Ocracoke artist Robert Chestnut. This series of environmental portraits, named “Ocra-broke” exposes the viewer to the other side of living in paradise: the everyday people who work hard and have fun, an island that closes down during the winter months, and the weathered structures that persist through each tourist season. Along with nature filled scenes, Robert  loves to find forgotten items and help shine a light on them. To convey his ideas he uses photography, oil painting, and printmaking. Ocra-broke will be on display in the Vault Gallery November 1 through December 21, 2024. 

9th Annual Christmas Craft Village in Corolla

Start your holiday gift shopping on the grounds of Whalehead in Historic Corolla Park on Friday, November 29th, 2024 (11am-4pm). Enjoy arts and crafts, fine arts, handmade cosmetics, baked goods and other unique treasures from local artists and vendors. The 9th Annual Christmas Craft Village is a one-day outdoor show that also includes additional fun to help you get into the holiday spirit. Take in the sights of Historic Corolla Park… Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be in attendance to hear Christmas wishes and provide an opportunity for photos. Kids will get to enjoy free pony rides and a petting zoo. There will also be food vendors for those hungry for more than a hot beverage. Ring in the holiday season in Corolla!

Delve into the history and mystery surrounding England’s first attempt to establish a colony in the new world. This easy walk follows paved sidewalks and is .25 miles in length. Discover the history and mystery of The Lost Colony on this 1 hour walking tour. This event is free and open to the public. The tour occurs daily on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from October 06, 2024 to November 02, 2024 at 11:00 am. The tour meets in the plaza outside the Lindsay Warren Visitor Center at Fort Raleigh.

Annual Kites With Lights at Jockey’s Ridge State Park

On Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 4-7pm, come to Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head for the Annual Kites with Lights. Kitty Hawk Kites presents this annual event to kick off the holiday season on the Outer Banks. Several large kites decorated with holiday lights will fly high over Jockey’s Ridge, the tallest natural sand dune on the East Coast. At 5:00 pm, the Jockey’s Ridge solar Christmas tree that sits high atop the dune will be lit for the first time this holiday season.
