Registration is NOW OPEN for the 37th Annual Dare County Senior Games! The 2025 local games will be held from Saturday, April 12, 2025 to Friday, May 9th, 2025 with 50 different sporting events and over 30 different artistic categories. See the event schedule on the event website for a detailed schedule. Event dates and times vary. Participation in the Dare County Senior Games is open to those 50 years of age and older who have lived in Dare County or Currituck County for at least three consecutive months of the year. To be eligible, you must be at least 50 as of the last day of the current year. Proof of age and residency will be required.

47th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show

The 47th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show will open at Dare Arts on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 6pm with an opening reception from 6-8pm at Dare Arts. The show will remain open during normal gallery hours Tuesday - Saturday from February 8 to March 1 from 10 am - 5 pm (T-F) and 10am - 4 pm on Saturdays. 50 Years Of Dare Arts: A Retrospective

In February Dare Arts Vault Gallery will feature a retrospective exhibit curated by Vice President, Rebecca Watkins and Board Member, David Beal. People that visit Fifty Years of Dare Arts, A Retrospective will be able to learn about the history of Dare Arts, including notable local icons Mollie Fearing and Frank Stick. The exhibit also highlights the many art events hosted in the community like Artrageous and Outer Banks Veterans Week, as well as programs like the Power of Art. Each panel is filled with photographs and interactive links where visitors might get a chance to see their favorite familiar faces from Dare Arts events over the past fifty years. Fifty Years of Dare Arts, A Retrospective will be on display in the Vault Gallery February 7-March 1, 2025. The exhibit is FREE and open to the public.

Step back in history during this short walk to the actual site of the Wrights’ first powered flights!  Discover why the Wrights chose Kitty Hawk for their flight experiments and what life was like in the Outer Banks; learn about the events that led to the first powered flight on that cold December day, and the lasting impact their first flight continues to have on the world today.

This FREE program is weather-dependent and may be moved to accommodate wind/rain. Check in at the Visitor Center desk for the most updated information.  This 30 minute program recurs every week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from October 6, 2024 until January 2, 2025 at 11 am and 1 pm. Meet on the back patio of the Visitor Center.

Sweep the Beach Trash Art Contest

Kitty Hawk Kites is teaming up with Dare Arts Council to create the Outer Banks Sweep the Beach Trash Art Contest! Submissions accepted from March 1st - March 30th. In conjunction with Earth Day, artists are asked to create work from the trash they have collected from our beaches and sounds. After submission, the artwork will be placed on our TrART Walk at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing. Submissions will be placed on (or around) March 30th. Until April 21st, pieces will be adjudicated and voted on for varying prize categories. Select pieces will be collected and moved to Jockey’s Ridge State Park for Earth Fair OBX, April 22nd, where winners will be announced at the Kitty Hawk Kites booth in Jockey’s Ridge State Park parking lot at 3:45 pm.

Sound & Park Clean-up

Weather permitting, the date for the Spring Town park/sound clean up is Saturday, March 1. Plan to arrive at 9:45 am and start at 10:00 am. The clean up will be done by noon with lunch provided by the Town of Duck for all of those that can help. Please be sure to bring your own reusable water bottle.
