Kitty Hawk Kites is teaming up with Dare Arts Council to create the Outer Banks Sweep the Beach Trash Art Contest! Submissions accepted from March 1st - March 30th. In conjunction with Earth Day, artists are asked to create work from the trash they have collected from our beaches and sounds. After submission, the artwork will be placed on our TrART Walk at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing. Submissions will be placed on (or around) March 30th. Until April 21st, pieces will be adjudicated and voted on for varying prize categories. Select pieces will be collected and moved to Jockey’s Ridge State Park for Earth Fair OBX, April 22nd, where winners will be announced at the Kitty Hawk Kites booth in Jockey’s Ridge State Park parking lot at 3:45 pm.
Spring 2025 Installation: Aeronautical Sea Marks by artist Christina Lorena Weisner will be on display in The Dare Arts Courtyard. The installation will open at 6pm on Friday, March 7 and remain on display through May. This outdoor installation features several geometric structures made from lightweight, weather-resistant PVC pipe and deconstructed fabric from discarded beach umbrellas collected from local beaches by the artist. The cube-like structures vary in size, with some reaching up to eight feet. Their arrangement encourages viewers to move around and in between them, providing a dynamic experience of changing perspectives and spatial relationships within the courtyard. All of The Courtyard events are free, family-friendly and open to the public.

The Of Fur and Feather exhibit is inspired by the diverse ecology of eastern NC, and more specifically, the wildlife of the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Through this body of work, Laron explores the unique connections of the wildlife that call this place home. Focusing on the red wolves, bears, and the many birds species of the region, the paintings move the viewer to consider the importance of these wild spaces.

Pea Island Bird Walk is a FREE event. Pea Island is ACTUALLY for the birds! This National Wildlife Refuge has close to 400 species of birds that live here or pass through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan.
Pea Island Bird Walks are held year-round except during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival in October and December. Meet at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, located on NC Highway 12 approximately 4 miles south of Oregon Inlet and 9 miles north of Rodanthe.

Kick off spring with ecoEXPLORE's All About Botany program. Learn about becoming an ecoEXPLORER and discover the world of coastal North Carolina plants with refuge educators. Developed by The North Carolina Arboretum, ecoEXPLORE is an innovative program for children in grades K-8 that combines science exploration with kid-friendly technology to foster a fun learning environment for children while encouraging them to explore the outdoors. Come to Roanoke Island Festival Park on select nights for the Bluegrass Island Nights concert series. On March 29 from 7 - 9 pm, enjoy the music of the Malpass Brothers, two young brothers who discovered their grandfather Malpass record collection. Drawn like a moth to a flame, Chris and Taylor studied the brother-harmony bluegrass duos of Jim & Jesse, the Louvin and Wilburn Brothers and bathed in the sounds of Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Charlie Pride, Merle Haggard. Doors open for each show at 6:30PM and the show starts at 7:00PM. Refreshments will be available for purchase including beer, wine, and snacks. Seating is limited to only 250 people. Tickets can be purchased online at the event website.
