In 1587, English colonists came to Roanoke Island. Night of 1587 Pumpkins is an event at the Elizabethan Gardens honoring the colonists. On this night 1,587 jack-o-lanterns are lit. The evening hosts trick-or-treating, costume contests, scream contests, and carved pumpkin contests. Everyone is encouraged to come dressed in costume to enjoy the festivities including dogs. Come to the Gardens and carve a free pumpkin October 25 - 27th or bring your own carved pumpkin(s) to the event!. Pumpkins will be added to the pumpkin path. In addition to the vendors, the Gardens will have glow sticks, hot chocolate, apple cider and s’more packs for the bonfire for sale. Come enjoy the festivities!
