Music lovers come from all over the world for this Outer Banks annual tradition. The Bluegrass Island Music Festival is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year with a number of regional and international bands set to take the stage. The festival is held at the stunning 22 acre Roanoke Island Festival Park overlooking the pristine waters of the Roanoke Sound. Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets and lodging in advance. The Wings Over Water (WOW) Festival is the Annual National Wildlife Refuge Fundraising event. It offers over 70 birding, paddling, photography, art, and natural history programs. The festival takes place at 6 national wildlife refuges in northeast North Carolina. It is one of the premier east coast wildlife festivals. Locally, many activities take place on National Park Service properties, specifically Cape Hatteras National Seashore, a Festival partner. Knowledgeable activity leaders along with a small participant-to-leader ratio make this a unique experience where participants will not get lost in the crowd. Every festival leader is an expert in their field, volunteering their time, travel and expertise. Wings Over Water leaders come from a range of professions and fields including professors, experienced birders, well-respected botanists, biologist, authors, award-winning photographers, and artists.

Registration is required at a cost of $5.00. Additional fees accrue based on which festival activities participants choose to attend. Activity costs range from $20 -$40.  

Come to the park and challenge a ranger to a round of target practice with an atlatl or spear. This event showcases the primitive technology Native Americans and ancient people worldwide used for thousands of years to hunt and survive. Enjoy additional games and activities at the park.

The Great Art Heist will showcase pieces by local and regional visual artists plus experiences by performing artists. This special event will serve as Dare Arts' annual fundraiser. Auction participants have the opportunity to support the arts while boasting their best bids. 

In October, The Dare County Arts Council Vault Gallery will feature abstract paintings and works on paper by Patrick Berran. The title, "Tide Pool", lends itself to the curiosity of looking and exploring the world around you. The works included in this exhibit will showcase a variety of methods to making an image within abstraction.

Ascend Jockey’s Ridge with a Park Ranger! As you hike, learn about the ever changing dune and its uniqueness. Enjoy the breathtaking ocean and sounds views. It will be a lasting memory to treasure for years, and a great photo opportunity. Hikers meet at the Jockey’s Ridge park pavilion located beside the visitor center.

Calling all anglers! The NCBBA tournament features more than $10,000 in cash and prizes and hosts 400 anglers, both individual and in teams of 3-6. Participants are encouraged to sign up early to ensure space is available. The tournament entry fee includes a t-shirt, hat, and other goodies. Enjoy miles of naturally isolated fishing grounds along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Anglers fish from ORV Ramp 23 to Ramp 38, and possibly Ramps 43 and 44, if judge availability permits. Anglers may fish where they please within the tournament boundaries, as there are no station assignments during the 60 hours of wide-open fishing. The banquet and awards ceremony is subject to restrictions based on state or local authorities with regard to group gatherings, depending on the Coronavirus status.
