The Wall That Heals is a traveling, three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. It tours the country and will be on display with a mobile education center from November 16 through November 19, 2023 at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head. This free exhibit, hosted by the Dare County Veterans Advisory Council, will be open to the public 24 hours a day. Like the original Vietnam Memorial, The Wall That Heals is erected in a chevron-shape. Visitors can do name rubbings of individual service member names.

Jockey's Ridge State Park and the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island will host a Fall Star Party. Participants are invited to stargaze at Dowdy Park in Nags Head. The lights will be dimmed to allow the public to view the setting sun and the night sky through telescopes provided by the Back Bay Amateur Astronomy Club and the OBX Astronomy Club. The program will be held regardless of weather. Even if it rains, plan to stop by the Dowdy Park pavilion from 4:30 to 5 p.m. to get a November night sky chart.
