Halloween Nature Party at Jockey’s Ridge

Join Ranger Austin's skeleton crew and cool ghouls for a fun and festive hour at Jockey's Ridge State Park. Learn about what goes bump in the park after dark. This spook-tacular program will include a presentation on nocturnal critters, fun games, and creepy nature crafts. Participants will use natural materials like pine cones and leaves to create make Halloween-themed art! Treats and gift bags provided by NC State Parks and the Friends of Jockey's Ridge State Park. This program is intended for children ages 5 to 10. Space is limited, and registration is required.

NC Lions Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) Fishing Tournament

The NC Lions VIP Fishing Tournament is a three-day event that attracts more than 350 visually impaired persons, 130 sighted guests, and 300 volunteers to the Outer Banks each year. The fishing tournament provides educational, recreational, and personal growth opportunities. All fishing takes place on the Avalon, Nags Head, Jennette’s, and Kitty Hawk Fishing Piers, and on two head boats, the Crystal Dawn and Miss Oregon Inlet. All other events and banquets occur at the Lions Westcott Park in Manteo. In addition to fishing, VIPs will visit tourist attractions, see vendors, interact with an ophthalmologist, hear from state officials, enjoy a Bible study, and dance. Live bands include the Rhondels and the Out ‘N Cold band.

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center 14500 NC Hwy 12, Rodanthe, NC, United States

The Wings Over Water (WOW) Festival is the Annual National Wildlife Refuge Fundraising event. It offers over 70 birding, paddling, photography, art, and natural history programs. The festival takes place at 6 national wildlife refuges in northeast North Carolina. It is one of the premier east coast wildlife festivals. Locally, many activities take place on National Park Service properties, specifically Cape Hatteras National Seashore, a Festival partner. Knowledgeable activity leaders along with a small participant-to-leader ratio make this a unique experience where participants will not get lost in the crowd. Every festival leader is an expert in their field, volunteering their time, travel and expertise. Wings Over Water leaders come from a range of professions and fields including professors, experienced birders, well-respected botanists, biologist, authors, award-winning photographers, and artists.

Registration is required at a cost of $5.00. Additional fees accrue based on which festival activities participants choose to attend. Activity costs range from $20 -$40.

Patrick Berran Exhibit – Tide Pool

In October, The Dare County Arts Council Vault Gallery will feature abstract paintings and works on paper by Patrick Berran. The title, "Tide Pool", lends itself to the curiosity of looking and exploring the world around you. The works included in this exhibit will showcase a variety of methods to making an image within abstraction.
