Join the OBX Running Company for the 2024 13th Annual running of The Outer Banks Sunrise 5k / 1 Mile Beach race series. This is a family fun event on the beautiful beaches of the Outer Banks featuring the new expansive shores of Nags Head. Sunrise Appreciation post-race and crawl, features breakfast refreshments, and, of course, the most beautiful sunrise on the East Coast. Participants receive a finisher medal and event Summer Series T-shirt.

Living Proof: Artistic Visions of Hope & Healing will be on display in The Courtroom Gallery July 5-27, 2024. This exhibit is sponsored by Visionary Artists Group, an organization of local artists, who are cancer survivors and/or caregivers. Their goal is to give all those whose lives have been impacted by cancer an opportunity to share their experiences through creative expression. 

Nothing Is Ordinary; Everything Is Beautiful will be on display in the Vault Gallery July 5-27, 2024. There will be an opening reception on Friday, July 5 from 6pm to 8pm, where visitors can meet Tammy and view her work. This exhibit will feature original, small oil paintings by Tammy Goodrich. The paintings in this exhibition will capture ordinary, yet beautiful, moments in our natural surroundings. Full of lush color and vibrant light, the paintings will resonate with anyone that enjoys still life and local landscape.

Widely known for its rich history of saving souls in peril from the sea, the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station has, for many years, provided a re-enactment of the beach apparatus rescue drill, recognized as an integral part of the Life-Saving Service. Meet on the porch promptly at 2 and hear an introduction to the history of Ocean rescues from the early 1800’s to present before proceeding out to the drill field where Chicamacomico’s Drill team will explain the equipment, and conduct the drill culminating with the rescue of a lucky kid from the audience. This event is free.

Summer Reading Program event at the Kill Devil Hills Library, Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The "Around the World" LEGO Building Contest is open to 3rd - 12th graders. Each participant will have 1 hour to build a Lego design that is about anything in the world. The design must be completed entirely at the library. The library staff will vote and prizes will be awarded. Join Ms. Donna for this fun and free event.

Come to Dowdy Park for Fitness Fridays. Enjoy family friendly free fitness classes including Tai Chi, Pilates, and Balance & Stretch classes. This event is free, and open to all ages and/or levels of fitness experience. This event recurs every Friday until August 16, 2024.

Enjoy a flat fast paced run/walk through beautiful Kinnakeet Shores in Avon, NC part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Everyone gets a T-shirt, unique finisher medal and chip timing. A producer-only farmers market in Wanchese featuring fresh produce, rotating artisans and so much more. Our family of producers join each market in person to share food and goods that they have grown or crafted themselves, here in Northeastern North Carolina.

The Hatteras Volunteer Fire Department will be the seasonal home of the fish fry from May 25 until August 31. A large plate is $15 and includes two pieces of locally caught fish, southern potato salad, cole slaw, and hush puppies, with sweet or unsweet tea, and homemade desserts available for a donation. The fish fry is held every Saturday at the Hatteras Fire Station from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend, from 5:00 p.m. until dinner is sold out.

From fresh produce like corn, tomatoes, and blueberries to handcrafted items such as pottery, glasswork, and textiles, the market truly offers a taste of the Outer Banks. Local artists often showcase their work here, adding a splash of color and creativity to the market scene. The Manteo Farmers Market is open every Saturday from early May through mid-September from 9AM to 1PM.
