  • Free Film Premiere: The Outer Edge (Season 2)

    The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau invites locals and visitors to a free, three-night premiere event celebrating the people, passions, and culture that make the OBX so special. Showings kick off on January 7 at the R/C Kill Devil Hills in Theater #7 and Theater #1, followed by a Hatteras Island event on January 8 at Cape Hatteras Secondary School and a January 9 showing at The Pioneer Theater in Manteo. Doors open at 6 p.m. all three nights with a showtime of 6:15 p.m. and an approximate run time of one hour.

    This new season continues the storytelling journey with fresh faces and lesser-known history, spotlighting locals devoted to lighthouses, natural sciences, lifesaving, pier fishing, skateboarding, and more—stories that could only come from the Outer Banks.     Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center 14500 NC Hwy 12, Rodanthe, NC, United States

    Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is home to nearly 400 species of birds that reside here or migrate through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan. Pea Island Bird Walks are held year-round except during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival in October and December. Meet at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, located on NC Highway 12 approximately 4 miles south of Oregon Inlet and 9 miles north of Rodanthe. The Pea Island Bird Walk is FREE.

    Join a park ranger at Jockey’s Ridge State Park for a guided hike to the top of the tallest living sand dune on the East Coast. Along the way, you’ll discover the fascinating plants and animals that thrive in this ever-changing landscape and learn what makes this park such a natural treasure. Once at the summit, enjoy sweeping views of the Roanoke Sound and Atlantic Ocean that you won’t soon forget. This free, family-friendly event is open to the public. Just be sure to wear sunscreen, bring water, and wear comfortable shoes. The group will meet at the park’s pavilion beside the visitor center.

Children will gather at the craft table to create a Bald Eagle, our nation’s symbol of freedom, and then take their creation home to display. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Registration required.
