13th Annual Pumpkin Patch at Island Farms

Bring your friends and family to celebrate the arrival of fall at Island Farm! On Saturdays in October, Island Farm will host its 13th annual Pumpkin Patch event. There will be no shortage of memories made while finding the perfect pumpkin in the patch to participating in fall games, making dolls and candles. In addition to the farm’s activities, there will be breakfast biscuits, as well as a variety of local art vendors and locally-grown produce for purchase on site. This event will take place on October 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 9 am until 3 pm Admission for visitors ages four and older is $10. Children 0-3 years old are admitted for free.

Kellogg Building Supply and Home Center invites Kids and Parents to "Paint a Pumpkin" on Saturday October 12th at 10am at any of their locations while supplies last. Locations available on the Outer Banks in Manteo, Kill Devil Hills, Duck, Edenton, Coinjock, and Kitty Hawk. This event is FREE to the public while supplies last! Adults and/or parents are required to assist children during the event.

Join the Corolla Wildlife Horse Fund on Saturday, October 12th from 10 am to 2 pm for Fall Open House at the Betsy Dowdy Equine Center! Visit the farm on the mainland in Grandy and meet the rescued Banker horses on the walking tour. Attend a free movie screening of The Secret of Corolla, a 32-minute documentary on the Banker mustangs, culture, and lifestyle of the island. There will be a Q & A directly following the documentary screening with the CWHF Director of Herd Management, Meg Puckett.

The Great Art Heist Benefit Auction

Dare Arts’ benefit art auction, The Great Art Heist, will open at the Gallery in downtown Manteo on Friday, October 4 from 6pm - 8 pm. The Great Art Heist is a silent art auction, featuring the work of local and regional artists, that guests can view and bid on at the Dare Arts Gallery and online at DareArts.org/artauction. Artists willing to donate a piece of artwork or a performing arts experience to The Great Art Heist can email Dare Arts Gallery Manager Tiffany Lindsey at DareArtsShows@gmail.com to coordinate details. Your support is deeply appreciated. The Great Art Heist will be open for viewing and bidding from October 4 through October 25.
Final bids must be in by 7:00pm on Friday, October 25.

The beloved Duck Jazz Festival returns for its 15th Anniversary, promising two days of captivating live performances at the scenic Duck Town Park. This free event celebrates the enduring power of jazz – its timeless notes that have transcended generations and cultures.The 2024 event will begin with a Concert on the Green style event, Saturday, October 12, 2023 from 4 – 6 p.m. Return to the park on Sunday, October 13, 2024, to enjoy a full day of music during this free, non-ticketed festival showcasing national, regional and local jazz musicians on two stages. Gates open at 10:00 a.m. with live music starting at 11:00 a.m. and food and soft drinks available for purchase from Duck eateries.

Pumpkin Centerpiece Workshop

Get into the autumn spirit at this one-hour pumpkin centerpiece workshop on Saturday, October 12, from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. You and your friends will create beautiful centerpieces for your tables, kitchens, or other living spaces during this fun fall activity. Your real pumpkins will be filled with flowers, moss, and other items from the Gardens. This will be a hands-on, messy program for all ages! Tickets can be purchased online $15.00 for non-members or $13.50 for members. All activity supplies are provided by the Elizabethan Gardens.

Giant Jellies: Carol Willett

Giant Jellies, by artist Carol Willett, are sculptures on display in Dare Arts Center. This display will be in the outdoor courtyard from September 6 through mid-November. 

There is something exquisite about the simplicity of jellies. Their color, shape and size are mesmerizing. This trio of Giant Jellies were created to spark curiosity about these magical creatures. The bells were sculpted over exercise balls, then drilled, sanded, painted and sealed. The colorful tentacles are made from deconstructed bath sponges and recycled beads. The reefs and their creatures are built out of expanding foam and wet sand, plus polymer clay and up-cycled plastic bottles. Electrical conduit, bicycle wheels and plywood make up the armatures.
