In August the Vault Gallery will feature porcelain pieces by Pamela Lassiter. Pamela's work is inspired by the natural environment of her home on Hatteras Island. The body of work in this exhibition is a reflection of the life and patterns that she sees on the island. The various organic forms and processes develop from studying the oceans movements. Pamela is fascinated by the tide as it ebbs and flows creating dynamic patterns in the sand. These patterns are interpreted through a process of carving and adding coils to wheel thrown and altered or hand built forms.

Sea and Sand will be on display in the Vault Gallery August 2-31, 2024.

​There will be an opening reception on Friday, August 2 from 6pm to 8pm, where visitors can meet Pamela and view her work.The opening reception is during downtown Manteo's First Friday festivities and is free and open to the public.​ 

Take a stroll along the shaded street in Ocracoke village and you’ll naturally notice the town’s love of all-things fig. Fig trees are everywhere in this coastal town, and during this annual celebration, visitors and locals alike can celebrate the fig through a myriad of music, dancing, history, activities, and of course, plenty of fig goodies.

This two-day event features a wealth of activities that take place at the Ocracoke Preservation Museum, or the nearby Community Square in the heart of the village. Visitors can enjoy a Traditional Ocracoke Square Dance with caller Philip Howard and music by Molasses Creek on the initial night, and then dance the night away with local music. On Saturday, enjoy a Fig Cake Bake-Off, plenty of fig cake samples, a “fig marketplace” with plenty of arts, crafts and baked goods, and lots of games and family-oriented activities for visitors of all ages. With historical programs along the way that explain the significance of the fig in this small coastal village, visitors can enjoy a wealth of educational activities, good times, fun and games, and lots and lots of fig fare at this delicious festival that puts the humble fig in the spotlight. Come and enjoy the beauty of the sunset on the Sound this summer while being serenaded by amazing songwriters who will share not just their songs, but their stories. Bring the family to enjoy a lovely evening of music at the North Marina Pavilion, Sassafras Lane, Southern Shores NC. The summer concert series is timed to coincide with sunset. This event is free to the public.

The 10th Annual Miss Oregon Inlet II Kids Fishing Tournament is the boat crew's favorite trip of the season. The boat takes kids aging from 6-14 years old on a half-day fishing charter to catch pigfish, croaker, sea mullet, grey trout, pufferfish, spot and sea bass. After the fishing charter, we have a cookout with hotdogs, watermelon, chips, and of course, ice cream! We have an award ceremony following the cookout where we give awards in two age categories: 6-10 and 11-14. The awards are for most fish, largest fish and first fish! Everyone who participates in the tournament will get a medal, t-shirt, and fishing pole. It is a fun-packed day aboard the Miss Oregon Inlet II! (Cost is $50). Preregistration is required.

Children ages 3 - 5 years old will enjoy Storytime with Ms. Tammy in the Manteo Library Meeting Room. Come Get Hooked on Books! All August dates have been canceled. Story time will resume in September after Labor Day.

Children grades Kindergarten through 7th will enjoy the "Hooked on Books Club" in the Manteo Library Meeting Room. Join Ms. Tammy to receive a copy of the current Book Club book. There will be a Trivia Game about the book and prizes! Come Get Hooked on Books!

The Town of Kill Devil Hills is proud to present the First Flight Farmers Markets. Featuring around 50 vendors offering a wide variety of goods from produce, sweet & savory treats, woodworking, photography, paintings, jewelry, candles, bath and body items and so much more. You’re sure to find one-of-a kind items for yourself and the entire family! The markets will be located at Aviation Park, 103 Veterans Drive. Parking is available at the park and overflow parking is available at the First Flight High School.
The First Flight Markets are held each Tuesday from June 18 through August 13 from 9 am – 1 pm.
