OBX Veterans Concert

Experience an intimate evening of storytelling through song by award-winning musicians at the Outer Banks Veterans Concert, which will be held at 7pm on Saturday, November 9 at The Pioneer Theater in downtown Manteo. Co-founder of Soldier Songs and Voices Tony Rosario, founder of the Veterans Writing Project Ron Capps and singer-songwriter-producer Jana Pochop will take the stage together at the historic Pioneer Theater for a special song swap. Tickets: Tickets to the concert are $5.00 with a military or Veteran ID and $10 for general admission.

Theatre of Dare Performance of Misery by Stephen King

Misery follows successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his “number one fan,” Annie Wilkes, and wakes up captive in her secluded home. While Paul is convalescing, Annie reads his latest book and becomes enraged when she discovers the author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Annie forces Paul to write a new Misery novel, and he quickly realizes Annie has no intention of letting him go anywhere. The irate Annie has Paul writing as if his life depends on it, and it does. Tickets can be purchased online for $11.50 - $16.50 depending seat location.

Giant Jellies, by artist Carol Willett, are sculptures on display in Dare Arts Center. This display will be in the outdoor courtyard from September 6 through mid-November. 

There is something exquisite about the simplicity of jellies. Their color, shape and size are mesmerizing. This trio of Giant Jellies were created to spark curiosity about these magical creatures. The bells were sculpted over exercise balls, then drilled, sanded, painted and sealed. The colorful tentacles are made from deconstructed bath sponges and recycled beads. The reefs and their creatures are built out of expanding foam and wet sand, plus polymer clay and up-cycled plastic bottles. Electrical conduit, bicycle wheels and plywood make up the armatures.

Surfrider Foundation Beach Clean-up

itty Hawk Kites is partnering with Surfrider Foundation Outer Banks Chapter to host a series of beach cleanups this season. Participants will meet at the Soundside Rd. public sound access. Once volunteers have checked in, they will receive gloves and cleanup bags, and will be free to clean up a stretch of beach of their own choosing. All participants will be encouraged to use the Marine Debris Tracker app to log the trash they have picked up.

The Lost Colony Fort Raleigh Walking Tour

Delve into the history and mystery surrounding England’s first attempt to establish a colony in the new world. This easy walk follows paved sidewalks and is .25 miles in length. Discover the history and mystery of The Lost Colony on this 1 hour walking tour. This event is free and open to the public. The tour occurs daily on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from October 06, 2024 to November 02, 2024 at 11:00 am. The tour meets in the plaza outside the Lindsay Warren Visitor Center at Fort Raleigh.

The Forgotten Colony: The Civil War on Roanoke

Come to the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site for a program about the Civil War on Roanoke Island, During the American Civil War, Roanoke Island became a haven for formerly enslaved people. Discover the successes and failures of the Freedmen’s Colony and the Civil War battle that shaped it. This is a FREE 20-minute program at the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site. Participants will meet in front of the visitor center.
