Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum

The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum reopens to the public on May 20 at 10 a.m. Operating hours will be Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free; however donations are welcome. Did you know that the North Carolina coast is home to more than 2,000 shipwrecks littered along the 80 miles of the sea shore? Museum exhibits tell both the tragic and heroic maritime stories of the Outer Banks. Come check out the museum's new exhibits and shipwreck artifacts. You might even spot something from the famous pirate, Blackbeard!

The 27th Annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show will open at the Dare Arts Courtroom Gallery on Sunday, May 5 with a special opening reception from 2pm to 4pm. The annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show is held in memory of Mollie A. Fearing, one of the founders of the Dare Arts, and features an eclectic mix of artwork. The Memorial Show goes on display every May at the Dare Arts Gallery. Come enjoy artwork submitted by local artists. The exhibit will will end with awards for Best in Show, Excellence, Honorable Mention, and a People's Choice Award.

Manteo Walking Tours begin Monday, March 4th. The tour runs Monday - Friday at 10am. The Manteo Walking Tour is a short, half-mile walk through downtown Manteo and along its waterfront. Join your tour guide owner and operator (and professional stand-up comedian) Greg Smrdel as he entertains and educates you on the rich history of the Outer Banks.The approximately hour-and-a-half tour is fun and informative, but not in the dry, dusty way most history is presented. Join the tour Monday through Friday at 10 am in downtown Manteo. Groups of 12 or more are also welcome with special group rates available. Flexible tour times can be arranged for groups.

Manteo Made Owen Lauber Exhibit

During the month of April, Dare Arts Vault Gallery will feature Manteo Made, a collection of woodwork by artist Owen Lauber. The month-long exhibit includes a selection of furniture and homewares, many of which are made from locally downed trees on Roanoke Island. Items on display range from furniture to smaller more delicate homewares and accessories. Some pieces pair natural forms of the wood with other more refined components, while others feature clean lines with contrasting accents. Come during downtown Manteo's First Friday festivities. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
