  • Eco EXPLORE Fun with Fungi

    Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges Gateway Visitor Center 100 Conservation Way, Manteo, NC

    This is a FREE event; however, reservations required. Learn all about mycology from refuge staff, then join us for a nature walk to explore mushrooms, lichen, and other fungi in their natural habitats. ecoEXPLORE is an incentive-based community science program for children in grades K-8, but all are welcome to attend.

  • Build a Kite and Take Flight

    Jockey's Ridge State Park Visitor Center 300 W Carolista Dr, Nags Head, NC, United States

    Complimentary paper kite kits will be available upon pre-registration. Stop by the visitor center and receive step-by-step instructions on how to construct the kit.  Make it your own special kite by adding colorful designs with crayons and colored pencils.  Finally, climb the ridge and enjoy one of our most fun pastimes in the park!  Kits provided courtesy of Kitty Hawk Kites.

  • Kayak the Sound

    Jockey's Ridge Soundside Access 330 W Soundside Rd, Nags Head, United States

    Join our staff for a paddle on the Roanoke Sound.  We'll learn about the sound and estuary portions of Jockey's Ridge State Park. No experience necessary, but children under 13 must paddle with an adult 18 years or older.  All equipment is provided to include boats, paddles, and life vests.  

    Registration is required. Email jockeys.ridge@ncparks.gov  for details and to sign up.  Please arrive at least 10 minutes early prior to the start of the program.
