50 Years Of Dare Arts: A Retrospective

In February Dare Arts Vault Gallery will feature a retrospective exhibit curated by Vice President, Rebecca Watkins and Board Member, David Beal. People that visit Fifty Years of Dare Arts, A Retrospective will be able to learn about the history of Dare Arts, including notable local icons Mollie Fearing and Frank Stick. The exhibit also highlights the many art events hosted in the community like Artrageous and Outer Banks Veterans Week, as well as programs like the Power of Art. Each panel is filled with photographs and interactive links where visitors might get a chance to see their favorite familiar faces from Dare Arts events over the past fifty years. Fifty Years of Dare Arts, A Retrospective will be on display in the Vault Gallery February 7-March 1, 2025. The exhibit is FREE and open to the public.

Children and Youth Partnership (CYP) Block Party Extravaganza

Join CYP for our annual Block Play Extravaganza at Nags Head Church in Nags Head. Experience the fun of math and science learning through block play during this interactive building extravaganza for parents and children 8 months to 5 years of age. Block Play Extravaganza provides families and their young children a hands-on learning laboratory to interact and gain understanding of the math and science concepts learned through block play. Early Childhood Educators from Children & Youth Partnership will be available to demonstrate techniques that can help parents maximize their child's learning.

Families will have the option to choose between two sessions each day, 9-10 a.m. or 10:45-11:45 a.m. Sessions fill up quickly — don't miss this unique opportunity!

This is a FREE event. Pre-registration is required by completing the registration form.

Step back in history during this short walk to the actual site of the Wrights’ first powered flights!  Discover why the Wrights chose Kitty Hawk for their flight experiments and what life was like in the Outer Banks; learn about the events that led to the first powered flight on that cold December day, and the lasting impact their first flight continues to have on the world today.

This FREE program is weather-dependent and may be moved to accommodate wind/rain. Check in at the Visitor Center desk for the most updated information.  This 30 minute program recurs every week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from October 6, 2024 until January 2, 2025 at 11 am and 1 pm. Meet on the back patio of the Visitor Center.

 PIPSI Past, Present and Future Program

College of Albamarle 205 US-64, Manteo, NC

The Pea Island Preservation Society, Inc. is excited to announce a special Black History Month program, PIPSI Past, Present and Future to be held at the College of the Albemarle, Dare County Campus, at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025. This program is to recognize the inspiring story of Keeper Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers, a story that has become the centerpiece for learning and understanding the Black history of the Outer Banks area. There will be three videos total about a half an hour in length with remaining time of the one-hour program planned devoted to discussion and feedback. The event is free and open to the public. Seating will be limited and early arrival is encouraged.

In the Park after Dark Night Hike

Take a hike to the ridge with a ranger and experience Jockey's Ridge State Park after dark. Along with the hike, the park ranger will share information about Jockey's Ridge. Take a moment to enjoy the stars, as the Outer Banks has some of the darkest skies on the east coast. Meet at the pavilion directly beside the visitor center. 

Taikoza: Japanese Drum and Dance Concert

Taikoza is a unique Taiko group that features Taiko drums, Shakuhachi, and Fue in a magical and mind-blowing performance. The group is led by musical director Marco Lienhard- an international Shakuhachi and Taiko virtuoso. Taikoza is a unique professional Taiko group that blends these instruments into their performance to create a thrilling experience for the entire family. The show is 90 minutes with an intermission. Tickets can be purchased online at the event website.

Registration Open for the 37th Annual Dare County Senior Games

Registration is NOW OPEN for the 37th Annual Dare County Senior Games! The 2025 local games will be held from Saturday, April 12, 2025 to Friday, May 9th, 2025 with 50 different sporting events and over 30 different artistic categories. See the event schedule on the event website for a detailed schedule. Event dates and times vary. Participation in the Dare County Senior Games is open to those 50 years of age and older who have lived in Dare County or Currituck County for at least three consecutive months of the year. To be eligible, you must be at least 50 as of the last day of the current year. Proof of age and residency will be required.
