Step back in history during this short walk to the actual site of the Wrights’ first powered flights!  Discover why the Wrights chose Kitty Hawk for their flight experiments and what life was like in the Outer Banks; learn about the events that led to the first powered flight on that cold December day, and the lasting impact their first flight continues to have on the world today.

This FREE program is weather-dependent and may be moved to accommodate wind/rain. Check in at the Visitor Center desk for the most updated information.  This 30 minute program recurs every week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from October 6, 2024 until January 2, 2025 at 11 am and 1 pm. Princess Tea Party

First Flight High School 100 Veterans Drive, Kill Devil Hills, United States

The First Flight High School Fine Arts Boosters are excited to host a new fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the rotunda. The Princess Tea Party is $20 per child. Tickets available for order in advance at the event website site. Children will receive a gift bag as they enter and should come dressed as their favorite storybook characters. They will receive a token to purchase tea and baked goods. There will be wand making, crown making, face painting, Photo Booth, a balloon igloo, and of course all their favorite characters with 10 live performances! Concessions will be open and raffle items for some great door prizes will be drawn throughout the event. All the proceeds go toward FAB's mission of supporting the Fine Arts at FFHS!

Soundside Nature Trail Hike

Jockey's Ridge State Park 300 W Carolista Dr, Nags Head, NC, United States

Join a park Ranger for an exciting dune hike. This guided hike will take you on a one mile loop hike along the Soundside Nature Trail.  Learn more about the environment found at the base of the dunes, including the Roanoke Sound and the unique ecosystem at Jockeys Ridge. Observe plants and learn about the wildlife at Jockey’s Ridge. This hike will take approximately 45 minutes and will meet at the Visitor’s Center Pavilion. Please wear appropriate shoes, sunscreen, and bring water! This is free and open to the public.

47th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show

The 47th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show will open at Dare Arts on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 6pm with an opening reception from 6-8pm at Dare Arts. The show will remain open during normal gallery hours Tuesday - Saturday from February 8 to March 1 from 10 am - 5 pm (T-F) and 10am - 4 pm on Saturdays. 50 Years Of Dare Arts: A Retrospective

In February Dare Arts Vault Gallery will feature a retrospective exhibit curated by Vice President, Rebecca Watkins and Board Member, David Beal. People that visit Fifty Years of Dare Arts, A Retrospective will be able to learn about the history of Dare Arts, including notable local icons Mollie Fearing and Frank Stick. The exhibit also highlights the many art events hosted in the community like Artrageous and Outer Banks Veterans Week, as well as programs like the Power of Art. Each panel is filled with photographs and interactive links where visitors might get a chance to see their favorite familiar faces from Dare Arts events over the past fifty years. Fifty Years of Dare Arts, A Retrospective will be on display in the Vault Gallery February 7-March 1, 2025. The exhibit is FREE and open to the public.
