Step back in history during this short walk to the actual site of the Wrights’ first powered flights!  Discover why the Wrights chose Kitty Hawk for their flight experiments and what life was like in the Outer Banks; learn about the events that led to the first powered flight on that cold December day, and the lasting impact their first flight continues to have on the world today.

This FREE program is weather-dependent and may be moved to accommodate wind/rain. Check in at the Visitor Center desk for the most updated information.  This 30 minute program recurs every week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from October 6, 2024 until January 2, 2025 at 11 am and 1 pm. Theatre Winter Workshop: Beat It! An Intro to Bucket Drumming

Participants will create, design, and learn to play their own Bucket Drums! From the history of drumming, to how Bucket Drumming became the “busking phenomenon” it is today! Warm up your chops, learn some cool riffs, and let your rhythm shine!

This workshop is for children in grades First through Fifth. I occurs every Friday, January 10 - February 14, 3:30 - 4:30 pm.

Theatre Winter Workshop: One-On-One Monologue Sessions

Theatre of Dare 3848 N. Croatan Highway, Kitty Hawk, United States

These specialized sessions help to guide older students in selecting roles that match their talents. Participants will receive original monologues, one comedic and one dramatic, written and tailored just for them. With focus on mastering the pieces, paying close attention to beats, timing, volume, and other essential skills required for a successful audition.

This workshop is for students in Six through Twelfth grades. The workshop includes six sessions, per student, beginning January 6 through February 14. Participants, and their families, will be able to schedule hour-long sessions that best suit their schedules.

Reading Party with Music & Seasonal Beverages

Inspired by the wildly successful Reading Rhythms experience in New York City, Sarah Shellow will facilitate silent reading periods, one-on-one, and small group breakouts to discuss the books participants bring. This is not a book club, but a reading party where participants read among other readers to curated music. Read with friends while listening to live instrumental music curated by Lou Castro and enjoying seasonal light refreshments. Bring your favorite book and cozy up in a nook and read in silence with others who enjoy a good book. Kindles and audio books with earphones welcome!

The library will hose The InterACTive Theater of Jef for children and families to share together at Ocracoke Community Library on
Saturday, February 1, 2025. Jef will begin the program at 11:30 a.m., but join in anytime until 12:15pm! Scheduled activities take place from 10am - 1 pm. Jeb involves his audience members to help him when he's confused and to play along with his mime, mask and variety arts shenanigans. He even leads a sing-a-long! Be sure to bring a grown up for snacks, door prizes, a library scavenger hunt, Lego challenge, and Jef's program.

2025 Frank Stick Memorial Art Show Entry Submissions

Dare Arts is currently seeking entries for the 47th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show. The show is open to Dare Arts members and residents of Dare County ages 18 and over. Open to Dare Arts members and non-members. Member entry fee is $25 and non-member entry fee is $35. Artists wishing to participate in the show can find the prospectus and sign up for a specific time to drop off their work online at DareArts.org/frankstickshow. Each artist may submit one entry in any visual arts media. Entries must be original, executed within the last two years (without supervision), and not previously exhibited in a Dare Arts show. Dare Arts will present the following awards: Eure Best In Show: $500 Excellence Awards (4): $250 each Honorable Mentions (3): $100 each People’s Choice: $75 (selected by public ballot during the opening reception).

Come to the Seaside Art Gallery for the Animals in Art Show (2025). This show runs February 1st – 29th, 2025. An opening reception will be held February 6th from 5pm-7pm. When you buy art from this warmhearted show, you make a difference in the lives of animals. All the proceeds from the purchase of Greeting A New Day by Sue Wall will go to the Outer Banks Coastal Humane Society.10% of the proceeds from the show will go to the Coastal Humane Society.
