50 Years Of Dare Arts: A Retrospective

In February Dare Arts Vault Gallery will feature a retrospective exhibit curated by Vice President, Rebecca Watkins and Board Member, David Beal. People that visit Fifty Years of Dare Arts, A Retrospective will be able to learn about the history of Dare Arts, including notable local icons Mollie Fearing and Frank Stick. The exhibit also highlights the many art events hosted in the community like Artrageous and Outer Banks Veterans Week, as well as programs like the Power of Art. Each panel is filled with photographs and interactive links where visitors might get a chance to see their favorite familiar faces from Dare Arts events over the past fifty years. Fifty Years of Dare Arts, A Retrospective will be on display in the Vault Gallery February 7-March 1, 2025. The exhibit is FREE and open to the public.

Step back in history during this short walk to the actual site of the Wrights’ first powered flights!  Discover why the Wrights chose Kitty Hawk for their flight experiments and what life was like in the Outer Banks; learn about the events that led to the first powered flight on that cold December day, and the lasting impact their first flight continues to have on the world today.

This FREE program is weather-dependent and may be moved to accommodate wind/rain. Check in at the Visitor Center desk for the most updated information.  This 30 minute program recurs every week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from October 6, 2024 until January 2, 2025 at 11 am and 1 pm. Meet on the back patio of the Visitor Center.

Theatre Winter Workshop: Beat It! An Intro to Bucket Drumming

Participants will create, design, and learn to play their own Bucket Drums! From the history of drumming, to how Bucket Drumming became the “busking phenomenon” it is today! Warm up your chops, learn some cool riffs, and let your rhythm shine!

This workshop is for children in grades First through Fifth. I occurs every Friday, January 10 - February 14, 3:30 - 4:30 pm.

Theatre Winter Workshop: One-On-One Monologue Sessions

These specialized sessions help to guide older students in selecting roles that match their talents. Participants will receive original monologues, one comedic and one dramatic, written and tailored just for them. With focus on mastering the pieces, paying close attention to beats, timing, volume, and other essential skills required for a successful audition.

This workshop is for students in Six through Twelfth grades. The workshop includes six sessions, per student, beginning January 6 through February 14. Participants, and their families, will be able to schedule hour-long sessions that best suit their schedules.

The 47th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show will open at Dare Arts on Friday, February 7, 2025 with an opening reception from 6-8pm at Dare Arts in Downtown Manteo. The show will remain open during normal gallery hours from February 8 to March 1, The gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays, open Tuesdays - Fridays from 10 am - 5 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am - 4 pm. Plan to cast a ballot for your favorite piece of art in the show.

The 9th annual Love on the Run 5k” Run/Walk is Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 9-1 pm. Start your day with your Sweetheart, or maybe find one on the course, then start your scenic trail run/walk through the vineyard, under the trees, by the sound and back to the winery for the post-race wine, cheese and chocolate tasting party including Sanctuary souvenir swag.
