  • Halloween International Film Festival

    Halloween International Film Festival

The Pioneer Theater 113 Budleigh Street, Manteo, United States

The Halloween International Film Festival is happening October 2-4, 2025 at The Pioneer Theater in Manteo, on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. It will showcase shorts and feature works from around the world that celebrate the strange, the unusual, and the horror of the most hallowed of seasons, taking place on the historic and haunted Outer Banks, North Carolina, home of America’s first unsolved mystery, the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island, at a legendary theater that dates back over a century.

The festival features three days of independent horror and Halloween-themed films from around the world, as well as networking opportunities and extensive media exposure, all taking place as the kickoff event for the town of Manteo’s Halloween Island festivities, during which area restaurants, bars, and businesses transform into Halloween pop-ups for October. See the event website for a full event schedule and to purchase tickets in advance.

  • Willow Rea Temple Exhibit: Little Worlds and Ephemeral Life

Dare Arts Center 300 Queen Elizabeth Ave, Manteo, United States

In October our Vault Gallery will feature paintings by Willow Rea Temple. The month-long exhibit, "Little Worlds and Ephemeral Life", is a nod to the bittersweet notes of nostalgia. This series of paintings was inspired by vintage photos of local life with many photo references being sourced from the Outer Banks History Center and others found in friends and family photo albums.

Willow uses a variety of mediums and bold colors to weave new tales into past life, making each image a timeless reminder of the brevity of youth. As you look at each character depicted, imagine all the different “little worlds” they live in. Many of our life experiences are unique, but most of them are shared, connecting us all to each other.

There will be an opening reception on Friday, October 3 from 6pm to 8pm, where visitors can meet Willow and view her work. The opening reception is during downtown Manteo's First Friday festivities, and is free and open to the public.

Little Worlds and Ephemeral Life will be on display in the Vault Gallery October 3 - November 1, 2025.
