Step back in history during this short walk to the actual site of the Wrights’ first powered flights!  Discover why the Wrights chose Kitty Hawk for their flight experiments and what life was like in the Outer Banks; learn about the events that led to the first powered flight on that cold December day, and the lasting impact their first flight continues to have on the world today.

This FREE program is weather-dependent and may be moved to accommodate wind/rain. Check in at the Visitor Center desk for the most updated information.  This 30 minute program recurs every week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from October 6, 2024 until January 2, 2025 at 11 am and 1 pm. Meet on the back patio of the Visitor Center.

The 47th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show will open at Dare Arts on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 6pm with an opening reception from 6-8pm at Dare Arts. The show will remain open during normal gallery hours Tuesday - Saturday from February 8 to March 1 from 10 am - 5 pm (T-F) and 10am - 4 pm on Saturdays. Don't miss your chance to shine! Register for a chance to become the next OBX Got Talent champion! Singers(individual, duo or trio), musicians, songwriters, or combination of these. No full bands at this time. Participants that submitted an entry form along with a 1 minute audition video clip will be contacted with a scheduled time to perform for live tryouts beginning 10 am on Saturday, January 11 at 109 Budleigh Street, Manteo, NC 27954. Tryouts are closed to the public and only open to contestants. If under the age of 18 years or older, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times to participate.

First Friday is a fun-filled, family-oriented event held the first Friday of each month, in historic downtown Manteo. The sidewalks pulse with live music, magic, artisans, and much more. The Manteo Stroll featuring celebrations, specials, art openings, sales and more inside Manteo galleries, shops and restaurants also happens during First Friday.

Savor the small town charm of winter markets at Dowdy Park. Come out for fresh produce, meats, bread, seafood, cheese, and delicious wintertime bites! Held under the pavilion. Double check, in case of inclement weather conditions. All markets take place from 9 am - 12 pm.
