“Golden Hour” by Robyn Scott is the first exhibit in the 2026 Rotating Art Show series. The exhibit will be on display in the first floor conference room of the Town Hall and open from 9:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from January 30-April 23, 2026. Golden Hour is a love letter to the Carolina coast, where the light hits Mother Earth with a gentle glow leading into the peaceful night sky. This collection is meant to celebrate the warm hug offered by our beautiful ocean as we drive up and down the coastal roads, exploring the many beaches and seaside shops. Many of the works feature scenes from Corolla, in particular, some of my favorite hidden soundside spots and stretches of the beach in the offseason.

Take a trip around the Alligator River Refuge and learn about the wild lands and wildlife. Bring your binoculars and camera! Drinking water and insect repellent are also recommended. The program will proceed, except in the event of lightning, heavy wind, rain, or impassable road conditions. Dress for the weather! Meet at Creef Cut Wildlife Trail parking lot, Hwy 64 and Milltail Road, approximately 6 miles west of Manns Harbor. Call 252-216-9464 for reservations.

About The Frank Stick Memorial Art Show
The annual show is held in memory of Outer Banks preservationist and artist Frank Stick, who was instrumental in having miles of the Cape Hatteras Seashore designated as the first National Seashore. The Frank Stick Memorial Art Show is the longest-running visual arts exhibit in Dare County. The exhibit goes on display every winter at Dare Arts. In 2017, the show was held at the Dare Arts Gallery for the first time since its inception.

Artists are encouraged to enter their most innovative work for the possibility of winning the distinctive Eure Best in Show Award, which is an ode to Glenn and Pat Eure for their many years of hosting the Frank Stick Memorial Art Show at Ghost Fleet Gallery.

This 2-hour Zoom seminar offers new and less-experienced boaters a guided virtual tour of the Outer Banks waterways from a boater’s perspective. Using OpenCPN navigation software and Google Earth, participants will “fly over” the OBX from north to south, exploring sounds, rivers, channels, marinas, and key points of interest including important navigation hazards.

The seminar covers practical questions such as where to launch, fuel up, dock, swim, shop, eat, sightsee, and fish, helping boaters gain confidence and familiarity before heading out on the water.

The Kill Devil Derby Brigade hosts New Skater Night on the first Tuesday of every month, offering a fun, welcoming introduction to skating basics in a non-contact setting. Sessions run from 6–8 p.m. at Aviation Skate Park in Kill Devil Hills. Full safety gear is required, and loaner gear may be available. No experience needed, just a positive, resilient attitude and a willingness to learn.

Calling all garden enthusiasts! This winter, the Dare County Extension Master Gardeners are hosting a seasonal series of informative talks. Each presentation runs about an hour and offers practical tips to help your garden thrive on the Outer Banks. This is a FREE event, however registration is required. Register on the event website.

The opening of Heidi Peelen Brooks’ exhibit, don’t worry! Her amazing paintings are up in our Vault Gallery through Saturday, February 6 - 28.  Venus in Polyester reimagines the goddess of love within a world of synthetic fabrics, broken appliances, and carefully curated vacations. Through saturated ballpoint-and-acrylic scenes, the series follows middle-class women from girlhood to old age as they lounge, pose, and persevere with humor and grace—doing farm chores in lipstick and house shoes, wrapped in polyester that feels both like armor and aspiration. Blending playful yet pointed commentary on femininity and leisure, the works incorporate rhinestones, buttons, and glitter, blurring the line between fine art and craft while celebrating—and gently critiquing—the beauty and absurdity of domestic life.

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is home to nearly 400 species of birds that reside here or migrate through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan. Pea Island Bird Walks are held year-round except during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival in October and December. Meet at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, located on NC Highway 12 approximately 4 miles south of Oregon Inlet and 9 miles north of Rodanthe. The Pea Island Bird Walk is FREE.

Winter Markets are back with cozy, community-focused gatherings held under the pavilion from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on January 10, February 14, March 14, and April 11. These intimate markets feature local food vendors only, offering seasonal goods, warm treats, and delicious bites in a relaxed winter setting. Bundle up and enjoy shopping local while soaking in the cozy vibes.

Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with Ranger Austin in this fun, hands-on activity for kids! Children will gather at the craft table to create a Bald Eagle, our nation’s symbol of freedom, and then take their creation home to display. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Registration required. James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Join a park ranger at Jockey’s Ridge State Park for a guided hike to the top of the tallest living sand dune on the East Coast. Along the way, you’ll discover the fascinating plants and animals that thrive in this ever-changing landscape and learn what makes this park such a natural treasure. Once at the summit, enjoy sweeping views of the Roanoke Sound and Atlantic Ocean that you won’t soon forget. This free, family-friendly event is open to the public. Just be sure to wear sunscreen, bring water, and wear comfortable shoes. The group will meet at the park’s pavilion beside the visitor center.

The annual show is held in memory of Outer Banks preservationist and artist Frank Stick, who was instrumental in having miles of the Cape Hatteras Seashore designated as the first National Seashore. Through saturated ballpoint-and-acrylic scenes, the series follows middle-class women from girlhood to old age as they lounge, pose, and persevere with humor and grace—doing farm chores in lipstick and house shoes, wrapped in polyester that feels both like armor and aspiration. Blending playful yet pointed commentary on femininity and leisure, the works incorporate rhinestones, buttons, and glitter, blurring the line between fine art and craft while celebrating—and gently critiquing—the beauty and absurdity of domestic life.

“Golden Hour” by Robyn Scott is the first exhibit in the 2026 Rotating Art Show series. The exhibit will be on display in the first floor conference room of the Town Hall and open from 9:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from January 30-April 23, 2026. Golden Hour is a love letter to the Carolina coast, where the light hits Mother Earth with a gentle glow leading into the peaceful night sky. This collection is meant to celebrate the warm hug offered by our beautiful ocean as we drive up and down the coastal roads, exploring the many beaches and seaside shops. Many of the works feature scenes from Corolla, in particular, some of my favorite hidden soundside spots and stretches of the beach in the offseason.

Head to Jockey’s Ridge State Park for a ranger-led one-mile loop hike along the scenic Soundside Nature Trail. This easy walk takes you through maritime thickets, wetlands, and sandy shoreline habitats, offering an up-close look at the plants and wildlife that thrive at the base of the towering dunes. Along the way, the ranger will share insights into the delicate ecosystems that connect the dunes to the Roanoke Sound and why they are so vital to the Outer Banks. This free, family-friendly program is open to the public. Bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes for a refreshing and educational outdoor experience.

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is home to nearly 400 species of birds that reside here or migrate through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan. Pea Island Bird Walks are held year-round except during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival in October and December. Meet at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, located on NC Highway 12 approximately 4 miles south of Oregon Inlet and 9 miles north of Rodanthe. The Pea Island Bird Walk is FREE.

Secotan Market is a producer-only farmers’ market held in Wanchese, North Carolina, where local growers and artisans sell fresh produce, pastured meats and eggs, fermented foods, baked goods, honey, flowers and more directly to visitors in a community-focused setting.

The 2025 seasonal schedule runs as follows: during the Cool Season (December through April) the market operates on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM; in the Main Season (May through September) it is open every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM; and in the Fall Season (October through Thanksgiving) it again runs every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with an additional market on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

This schedule gives you plenty of opportunities to visit on weekend mornings throughout the year, with the busiest and earliest hours in the heart of the growing season.

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Join a park ranger at Jockey’s Ridge State Park for a guided hike to the top of the tallest living sand dune on the East Coast. Along the way, you’ll discover the fascinating plants and animals that thrive in this ever-changing landscape and learn what makes this park such a natural treasure. Once at the summit, enjoy sweeping views of the Roanoke Sound and Atlantic Ocean that you won’t soon forget. This free, family-friendly event is open to the public. Just be sure to wear sunscreen, bring water, and wear comfortable shoes. The group will meet at the park’s pavilion beside the visitor center.

This 2-hour Zoom seminar offers new and less-experienced boaters a guided virtual tour of the Outer Banks waterways from a boater’s perspective. Using OpenCPN navigation software and Google Earth, participants will “fly over” the OBX from north to south, exploring sounds, rivers, channels, marinas, and key points of interest including important navigation hazards.

The seminar covers practical questions such as where to launch, fuel up, dock, swim, shop, eat, sightsee, and fish, helping boaters gain confidence and familiarity before heading out on the water.

The Kill Devil Derby Brigade hosts New Skater Night on the first Tuesday of every month, offering a fun, welcoming introduction to skating basics in a non-contact setting. Sessions run from 6–8 p.m. at Aviation Skate Park in Kill Devil Hills. Full safety gear is required, and loaner gear may be available. The 48th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show will open in our Courtroom Gallery on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 6:00 pm. The opening reception is free and open to everyone. After the opening, the show will be open for viewing during normal gallery hours, February 7-28, 2026.

About The Frank Stick Memorial Art Show
The annual show is held in memory of Outer Banks preservationist and artist Frank Stick, who was instrumental in having miles of the Cape Hatteras Seashore designated as the first National Seashore. The Frank Stick Memorial Art Show is the longest-running visual arts exhibit in Dare County. The exhibit goes on display every winter at Dare Arts. In 2017, the show was held at the Dare Arts Gallery for the first time since its inception.

Artists are encouraged to enter their most innovative work for the possibility of winning the distinctive Eure Best in Show Award, which is an ode to Glenn and Pat Eure for their many years of hosting the Frank Stick Memorial Art Show at Ghost Fleet Gallery.

Come to the Animals in Art opening reception at Seaside Art Gallery on February 5 from 5–7 p.m. Sip, stroll, and enjoy incredible artwork created in support of needy animals. A portion (10%) of each sale benefits the OBX Coastal Humane Society. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Dare County Special Olympics invites residents and visitors throughout the community to take part in the annual OBX Polar Plunge—a unique fundraising opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses in support of local Special Olympics athletes, which will take place beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Jennette's Pier in Nags Head. The opening of Heidi Peelen Brooks’ exhibit, don’t worry! Her amazing paintings are up in our Vault Gallery through Saturday, February 6 - 28.  Venus in Polyester reimagines the goddess of love within a world of synthetic fabrics, broken appliances, and carefully curated vacations. Through saturated ballpoint-and-acrylic scenes, the series follows middle-class women from girlhood to old age as they lounge, pose, and persevere with humor and grace—doing farm chores in lipstick and house shoes, wrapped in polyester that feels both like armor and aspiration. Blending playful yet pointed commentary on femininity and leisure, the works incorporate rhinestones, buttons, and glitter, blurring the line between fine art and craft while celebrating—and gently critiquing—the beauty and absurdity of domestic life.
