This 2-hour Zoom seminar offers new and less-experienced boaters a guided virtual tour of the Outer Banks waterways from a boater’s perspective. Using OpenCPN navigation software and Google Earth, participants will “fly over” the OBX from north to south, exploring sounds, rivers, channels, marinas, and key points of interest including important navigation hazards. The seminar covers practical questions such as where to launch, fuel up, dock, swim, shop, eat, sightsee, and fish, helping boaters gain confidence and familiarity before heading out on the water. Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is home to nearly 400 species of birds that reside here or migrate through. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. Field guides, binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Some field guides and binoculars will be available for loan. Pea Island Bird Walks are held year-round except during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival in October and December. Practicing Persistence: Pocosin Arts Residents Exhibit at Dare Arts in Manteo showcases the work of three emerging artists currently in residence at Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft. The exhibit features handcrafted works in mediums such as ceramics, wood, and metal, highlighting each artist’s exploration of form, texture, and evolving craft techniques. Visitors can experience the creativity and craftsmanship of these rising artists while celebrating the continued tradition of handmade art. The exhibition will be on display in the Vault Gallery March 7–28, with a free opening reception March 6 from 6–8 p.m. during First Friday in downtown Manteo. Friday, March 6, kicks off the 2026 First Friday season in downtown Manteo. We will have Joe Mapp playing live music on the front porch of the Gallery starting at 6:00 pm. There will also be live music by The Conch Shells at Poor Richard's, The Bar Cats Duo at NouVines, and DJ Night at Lost Colony Brewery. The First Friday Manteo Stroll, where restaurants and shops in downtown Manteo stay open late with specials, live music, sales, and events at their locations, will also be happening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. |

Secotan Market is a producer-only farmers’ market held in Wanchese, North Carolina, where local growers and artisans sell fresh produce, pastured meats and eggs, fermented foods, baked goods, honey, flowers and more directly to visitors in a community-focused setting. The 2025 seasonal schedule runs as follows: during the Cool Season (December through April) the market operates on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM; in the Main Season (May through September) it is open every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM; and in the Fall Season (October through Thanksgiving) it again runs every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with an additional market on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This schedule gives you plenty of opportunities to visit on weekend mornings throughout the year, with the busiest and earliest hours in the heart of the growing season. The 35th Annual Kelly’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place Sunday, March 15 at 1:00 PM along the Beach Road in Nags Head. The festive parade begins at Bladen Street (MP 11.5) and travels north to Driftwood Street on Virginia Dare Trail. Drawing thousands of spectators and more than 100 parade entrants each year, this lively community celebration features colorful floats, marching bands, local groups, and plenty of Irish-inspired fun for all ages. Families line the route early to catch candy, beads, and the excitement of one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in eastern North Carolina. Admission is free, so grab a beach chair, bring the family, and enjoy an afternoon of music, creativity, and community spirit along the OBX shoreline. Date: Sunday, March 15 Enjoy an intimate evening of live music at the indoor theater at Roanoke Island Festival Park during this special spring concert series featuring nationally touring roots and bluegrass artists. The seminar covers practical questions such as where to launch, fuel up, dock, swim, shop, eat, sightsee, and fish, helping boaters gain confidence and familiarity before heading out on the water. This unique endurance event invites runners to conquer 100 miles, 100 kilometers, or a team relay along a scenic coastal route stretching from Corolla to Hatteras. The race begins early on Saturday, March 21, 2026, with the 100-mile start in Corolla and the 100K start in Nags Head, sending runners south along 100% paved coastal roads that traverse the length of the Outer Banks. Participants face shifting weather, coastal winds, and long stretches of open road—making the challenge both physically demanding and unforgettable. The adventure concludes at The Wreck Tiki Bar in Hatteras, where runners celebrate their finish after completing one of the East Coast’s most distinctive ultramarathons. Secotan Market is a producer-only farmers’ market held in Wanchese, North Carolina, where local growers and artisans sell fresh produce, pastured meats and eggs, fermented foods, baked goods, honey, flowers and more directly to visitors in a community-focused setting. The 2025 seasonal schedule runs as follows: during the Cool Season (December through April) the market operates on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM; in the Main Season (May through September) it is open every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM; and in the Fall Season (October through Thanksgiving) it again runs every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with an additional market on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is home to nearly 400 species of birds that reside here or migrate through. Using OpenCPN navigation software and Google Earth, participants will “fly over” the OBX from north to south, exploring sounds, rivers, channels, marinas, and key points of interest including important navigation hazards. The seminar covers practical questions such as where to launch, fuel up, dock, swim, shop, eat, sightsee, and fish, helping boaters gain confidence and familiarity before heading out on the water. Held Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM (April through September), this interactive program allows visitors to watch newly emerged butterflies take their first flight while learning about butterfly life cycles and the plants that attract them to your own garden. Guests can add the experience to their garden admission and enjoy a close-up look at these beautiful pollinators as they are released into the gardens’ butterfly habitat.

Join a park ranger at Jockey’s Ridge State Park for a guided hike to the top of the tallest living sand dune on the East Coast. Along the way, you’ll discover the fascinating plants and animals that thrive in this ever-changing landscape and learn what makes this park such a natural treasure. Once at the summit, enjoy sweeping views of the Roanoke Sound and Atlantic Ocean that you won’t soon forget. This free, family-friendly event is open to the public. Just be sure to wear sunscreen, bring water, and wear comfortable shoes. The group will meet at the park’s pavilion beside the visitor center. Friday, March 6, kicks off the 2026 First Friday season in downtown Manteo. We will have Joe Mapp playing live music on the front porch of the Gallery starting at 6:00 pm. Secotan Market is a producer-only farmers’ market held in Wanchese, North Carolina, where local growers and artisans sell fresh produce, pastured meats and eggs, fermented foods, baked goods, honey, flowers and more directly to visitors in a community-focused setting. The 2025 seasonal schedule runs as follows: during the Cool Season (December through April) the market operates on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM; in the Main Season (May through September) it is open every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM; and in the Fall Season (October through Thanksgiving) it again runs every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with an additional market on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This schedule gives you plenty of opportunities to visit on weekend mornings throughout the year, with the busiest and earliest hours in the heart of the growing season.
