Golden Hour is a love letter to the Carolina coast, where the light hits Mother Earth with a gentle glow leading into the peaceful night sky. This collection is meant to celebrate the warm hug offered by our beautiful ocean as we drive up and down the coastal roads, exploring the many beaches and seaside shops. Many of the works feature scenes from Corolla, in particular, some of my favorite hidden soundside spots and stretches of the beach in the offseason.

    Secotan Market is a producer-only farmers’ market held in Wanchese, North Carolina, where local growers and artisans sell fresh produce, pastured meats and eggs, fermented foods, baked goods, honey, flowers and more directly to visitors in a community-focused setting.

    The 2025 seasonal schedule runs as follows: during the Cool Season (December through April) the market operates on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM; in the Main Season (May through September) it is open every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM; and in the Fall Season (October through Thanksgiving) it again runs every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with an additional market on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

    This schedule gives you plenty of opportunities to visit on weekend mornings throughout the year, with the busiest and earliest hours in the heart of the growing season.

  • Kayak the Sound

    Jockey's Ridge State Park 300 W Carolista Dr, Nags Head, NC, United States

    Experience the waters of the Outer Banks during Kayak the Sound, a guided paddling program at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Join Ranger Austin for a peaceful morning paddle on the Roanoke Sound, where participants will explore the aquatic side of the park while learning about local ecology, wildlife, and the natural and cultural history of the area.

    All kayaking equipment and instruction will be provided, making this program great for beginners and experienced paddlers alike. The minimum participant age is 8 years old, and children under 13 must paddle with an adult (18 or older).

    New to roller skating or curious about roller derby? The Kill Devil Derby Brigade hosts New Skater Night on the first Tuesday of every month, offering a fun, welcoming introduction to skating basics in a non-contact setting. Sessions run from 6–8 p.m. at Aviation Skate Park in Kill Devil Hills. Full safety gear is required, and loaner gear may be available. No experience needed, just a positive, resilient attitude and a willingness to learn.

    Earth Fair OBX is a free, family-friendly celebration of Earth Day held at Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head. The event brings together local Outer Banks organizations focused on environmental education and coastal conservation, offering interactive exhibits, educational displays, and hands-on activities for children. Visitors can explore booths, learn about protecting the region’s delicate ecosystems, and enjoy an afternoon of nature-focused fun while connecting with groups working to preserve the Outer Banks.
