Take a trip around the Alligator River Refuge and learn about the wild lands and wildlife. Bring your binoculars and camera! Drinking water and insect repellent are also recommended. The program will proceed, except in the event of lightning, heavy wind, rain, or impassable road conditions. Dress for the weather! Meet at Creef Cut Wildlife Trail parking lot, Hwy 64 and Milltail Road, approximately 6 miles west of Manns Harbor. Call 252-216-9464 for reservations. Alligator River Refuge Tram Tour $10 per adult. Head to Jockey’s Ridge State Park for a ranger-led one-mile loop hike along the scenic Soundside Nature Trail. This easy walk takes you through maritime thickets, wetlands, and sandy shoreline habitats, offering an up-close look at the plants and wildlife that thrive at the base of the towering dunes. Along the way, the ranger will share insights into the delicate ecosystems that connect the dunes to the Roanoke Sound and why they are so vital to the Outer Banks. Kill Devil Hills artist Arlene Fletcher opens a new three-month exhibition of her ocean-inspired oil paintings at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks (UUCOB). The reception begins with a brief artist talk at 11:45 a.m., followed by refreshments. Arlene’s work, centered on the beach, ocean, and sky, is inspired by the calming beauty and raw power of the sea. Free and open to the public. |
