ACA of North Carolina is once again teaming up with North Carolina State Parks, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and many other city and local parks to provide low-cost Intro to paddling classes across the state. We have over 50 volunteers from across the state joining together to offer at 15 slots per location. Each student gets to learn from 2 to 3 certified instructors, meet other new paddlers from their area, and leave with a bunch of resources to help their paddling future. This is a value well over $100 yet each student will pay only $15. Concert on the Dunes debuts at Jockey's Ridge State Park on Friday, May 15 at 6pm, bringing an evening of live music and community celebration to the Outer Banks. Set against the backdrop of the East Coast’s tallest living sand dune, the free event will feature performances by Everything, known for their hit song “Hooch,” along with The Mustang Music Outreach Program and Suzie Jacuzzi. Earth Fair OBX is a free, family-friendly celebration of Earth Day held at Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head. The event brings together local Outer Banks organizations focused on environmental education and coastal conservation, offering interactive exhibits, educational displays, and hands-on activities for children. Visitors can explore booths, learn about protecting the region’s delicate ecosystems, and enjoy an afternoon of nature-focused fun while connecting with groups working to preserve the Outer Banks.

Discover the wonders of the night sky during the Statewide Star Party: OBX at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Beginning at 5:30 PM, families can explore space-themed activity tables and hands-on educational experiences for kids before darkness falls. As the sun sets, telescopes will be set up for public viewing, giving visitors the chance to observe planets, stars, and other celestial objects with guidance from local astronomers. The free outdoor event is part of the North Carolina Science Festival’s statewide Star Party, which brings skywatching programs to dozens of locations across North Carolina. Weather permitting, night sky viewing continues until 10:00 PM, and all are welcome to attend this FREE event.
Experience the waters of the Outer Banks during Kayak the Sound, a guided paddling program at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Join Ranger Austin for a peaceful morning paddle on the Roanoke Sound, where participants will explore the aquatic side of the park while learning about local ecology, wildlife, and the natural and cultural history of the area.
All kayaking equipment and instruction will be provided, making this program great for beginners and experienced paddlers alike. The minimum participant age is 8 years old, and children under 13 must paddle with an adult (18 or older).
