    Experience the waters of the Outer Banks during Kayak the Sound, a guided paddling program at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Join Ranger Austin for a peaceful morning paddle on the Roanoke Sound, where participants will explore the aquatic side of the park while learning about local ecology, wildlife, and the natural and cultural history of the area.

    All kayaking equipment and instruction will be provided, making this program great for beginners and experienced paddlers alike. The minimum participant age is 8 years old, and children under 13 must paddle with an adult (18 or older).

    Pre-registration is required.

    Please arrive at least 10 minutes early before the program begins.

    Dune Ranger Discovery Camp at Jockey's Ridge State Park is an engaging and educational summer program for children in grades 3–6. Held July 29–31 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. daily, the three-day camp introduces young explorers to the park’s unique coastal environment through hands-on activities. Participants climb the towering sand dunes, explore maritime forests, paddle on the Roanoke Sound, create nature-inspired crafts, play games, and take part in stewardship projects while learning about the park’s ecology. By the end of the camp, kids earn the title of “Dune Ranger.” The program is free to attend, but pre-registration is required. See the event website for details.
